Belladonna Records is happy to announce our first physical release and is currently accepting submissions.

Already confirmed are a couple of our favorite artists from Merck, Ghostly and the current BD roster...leaving about 8-10 slots open.

Title: TBA

Theme: Summer

Requirements:

Electronic based music with an organic overtone. Genres preferred are downtempo, electronic music, dub, trip hop, indietronica, techno, deep clicky house, melodic breaks... however, all submissions will be happily reviewed with top considerations going to current BD artists.

Guidelines:

Tracks should rely on more musically created statements.

The heart of this project is bringing a human touch using prominent elements such as musical instruments, naturistic sounds, field recordings, vocals, etc. to focus on texture and mood.

Tracks should also invoke a sensation of summer with delicious swirls of nostalgia. This could be the invigorating, refreshing sunshine and warm breezes. The serene, dreamy, magical ambiance of a starry night. The innocence and beauty of watching the fluffy clouds roll by and feeling the dewy grass beneath your feet. The passion and intensity of a mid-day thunderstorm. You decide!

Details:

Chosen artists are asked to contribute a $25 submission fee to help cover production costs. In return you will receive that warm, fuzzy feeling from supporting the start-up of an ambitious label, 5 free copies, and priceless exposure on a comp that will feature high quality artwork and be heavily promoted and distributed worldwide and digitally.

You will retain all rights to all your songs/music/lyrics. No cover songs, original material only.

Closing date for submissions is May 15, 2006.Expected release date is June 21st 2006. A CD Release party will follow in Madison, WI.

so how did you get your name, belladonna records?

wella, was a combination of things with myself and my partner...bella is my cat's name, belle means "beautiful" in my fav language francais, into botony illustrations and fondness of the belladonna plant and it's history..basically...just randomness that led to the name.

:excl: how to submit::

Submissions should be sent to info@belladonnarecords.com. Please do not attach your files...send a link to a url. MP3's are fine but ultimately we'll need uncompressed .wav files for selected tracks. We will not be doing much additional mastering, simply making sure levels match and so on.

well shit, i guess the porn community will be dissappointed there's no titties on our website. heh heh.

so basically, (by your description), you're looking for boc clones to pay 25 bucks for the privilege of releasing on your label?

sorry to be harsh, but if you're looking for your artists to cover your production costs, in this climate as regards electronica, your label will go down the pan.

get some cash together dude, seriously... you can't run a label on support from the artists.

oh yay the negative posters. same type of people moan about paying cover charges when promoters are usually losing money to bring in good talent.

in this delicate state that the electronic music scene is in we're taking a real risk by taking this plunge but are extremely passionate about it and am asking like-minded individuals and friends to donate to the cause. i am a producer myself and have been performing and releasing for years and have paid more than $25 to be on compilations for labels that i believe in and have reached new contacts, listeners, gigs and made new friends because of the experiences. besides, any artists saavy enough to take a couple of the discs and sell them at a gig will make their $25 back.

belladonna has a great diy orientated label family. being our first release, we are gathering our current roster and label friends and everyone's been extremely supportive ;) power in numbers, my friend. after this comp we'll be in the position to start paying for the releases entirely. back quite easily. if you aren't interested in a community and collaborative label, then by all means, don't submit.

i'm not being negative, just a word to the wise.

i'm curious as to how you're going to pay for your world wide promotion.

with a good business plan. you make "world wide promotion" sound so big and expensive and unattainable. with the accessibility of the internet it's easy to make contacts with overseas publications/websites/radio,etc.

this first release's goal is to help establish our plan/goals/name/ our artist's name before starting our cataloug with individual releases. as always, we will also feature free mp3 releases in addition.

i certainly didn't mean to lashback either but want to make our intentions and goals clear. we just want to stay positive :wink2:

pssssh. you know you want to. yeah, where's that remix biiaaatch? :fear:

you going down! hehehe

much has transpired since. i've kept the source material. eventually, it will happen.

feel free to bug me about it as much as you wish.

Have things gotten so bad that "Deep Clicky House" is an acceptable genre name?? What if I make "Stank, Assy House", is that not ok?

People, get a grip!

i don't see anything wrong with being describing the type of music considering it's such house is such a broad genre and we're going for a particular theme/feeling. we are going to be more interested in micro/minimal house (aka techhouse) than bangin disco, funky, speed garage or stank assy either i suppose.

a good example would be andreas tilliander.

thats ridic

i run a cdr label, i sell everything for 3 or 4 bucks, i'm about to put out a 2 disc comp with people such as stuntrock, emotional joystick, terminal 11, mochipet, and other somewhat "big" people in the genre i can't remember along with about 25 other more underground/unknown artists, and ive never required anyone to pay me anything, i've even paid them some of what their releases bring in, everything i've kept i've used for other label projects.

if you have any concern about money at all, you should not be doing anything with music, especially if you're putting out electronic music comps with people who are willing to pay to be on them. i've always thought that if you're a musician, you should be in it for the love of music, and any money/fame/bitches should only be a bonus. any music you put out should be something that speaks for itself.

and that's all i have to say about that.

congrats on having the $ to fund your comp! we have passion + drive and a bit of money... everyone is pitching in, making this a collaborative effort with our roster. obviously we'll be paying royalties once we sell "x" amount of copies and this is worked out with the artists when chosen.

emotional joystick..dig his music. he's on my 2nd label home zod records, ben gave me his disc after i came on board.
