Venetian Snares' best album?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I just finished trekking through his entire discog and I'm now a fairly hardcore Vsnares fan. Like... at this point I would say he is tentatively in 2nd place under Ae in my books.

The only albums by him I didn't thoroughly enjoy are Songs about my Cats and Horse and Goat.

What do you guys think his best album is? If you're up to it, list a handful of the notable ones in order, like I'm about to do

Detrimentalist

Cavaclade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

Hospitality

Printf

Rossz Csillag Alatt Született

Meathole

Doll Doll Doll

Infolepsy EP

Pink & Green

Filth

man most of his music is so technical and unpredictable, two of my highest valued qualities in music. Also I love his album artwork, most of it is really excellent. If you're into breakcore/drum&bass you would be a fool to miss out on Detrimentalist, which is a sexy mixture of Jungle, Breakbeat, Acid and even elements of Dubstep, all mixed with the typical vsnares 7/4 timing. The whole 7/4 timing deal is a bit rough to get past at first but once you are comfortable with that type of groove, it sounds so natural and comfortable.

edit: yeah I know, UTFSE, I just realized this now though so fuck it :cisfor:

I don't like breakcore so album wise it's pretty easy for me - Rossz Csillag followed by My Downfall

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

Filth

Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding

Rossz Csillag Alatt Született/Winter In the Belly of a Snake

Horsey Noises/Meathole/Horse and Goat

Songs About My Cats/The Chocolate Wheelchair Album/Detrimentalist/My Downfall/Pink+Green

Winnipeg Is a Frozen Shithole/Greg Hates Car Culture/Higgins Ultra Low Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006/Doll Doll Doll/ Find Candace

I tried to order it. Aaron's one of my favorites to listen to. I always find something new in a song that I didn't hear before, or I focus on a different part of the song and hear it differently. I don't understand all the hate he gets around here, but I've said that before.

I've been a VSnares fan for some time but I'd have a hard time putting his albums in any order. Perhaps it's because I haven't listened to any one of his albums more than 5 times, and there are still some I haven't heard. And like others have said, you hear something new every time, and I haven't spent enough time with any album to really get a grip on them. But I enjoy them. I can probably safely say that Rossz Csillag Alatt Született is my favorite though. These are the others I have on CD, in an order that may or may not be accurate:

Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding

Winter In the Belly of a Snake

My Downfall

Detrimentalist

The Chocolate Wheelchair Album

Higgins Ultra Low Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006

As a quick aside: Do you think Aaron is a serious fucking psychopath? I mean.... I would not at all be surprised to learn that he ends his career by getting caught for the murder of hundreds of little girls or something. Do you think it's just tongue-in-cheek humor or does this guy have some SERIOUS fucking issues?

he's really awesome at making music with those faders.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I think he's just a genuinely weird guy.

I forgot to put the Hospitality EP in my list, shit.

I just can't figure out what anyone sees in HCCBU and Cavalcade myself. By the way, has Joyrex posted yet?

I dunno, his music emits some fierce, foul vibes though I must say.

He's done a lot of amphetamines, I reckon.

I love Cavalcade, Hospitality EP, Songs About My Cats, and more, but he has way too much music to really consider.

I think Flashforward from Detrimentalist is my favorite track by him. It packs a fucking punch dude guy bro bra.

Find Candace is great. I haven't listened to Venetian Snares in a long time but my favorites are probably Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding, Find Candace and of course Rossz. I haven't really payed much attention to his recent output. Since most of it is meh anyway. But have seen him live a couple of times in the past year and always end up having a great time.

Cavalcade flows together really well as an album. Not to mention it's a step back from a lot of his downright aggressive stuff or his jungle stuff while still retaining the chaotic structure. The melodies are really nice as well, if I had to compare it to something, I'd say it's like Rossz, only with synth melodies instead of classical elements, if that makes sense.

As for HCCBU, that album, to me, is just really fun to listen to. Ion Divvy is just a listening experience with the massive amount of stereo abuse. As for the rest of the album, I just happen to really like clicks and cuts for percussion and I find humor in all the Speak & Spell/Math samples, yet they fit really well. It sounds delightfully mechanical and robotic.

No love of Find Candice. Gutted. Completely gutted.

I mentioned it. Children's Limbo and the remix of Befriend a Childkiller are great.

I actually have 1961 on disk and like it a fair bit. It's different, but still interesting. Has a lot of cheesiness in it though, so I listen to it in small doses. I feel that 1961 is better than the self titled album too.
