Guest tbio2007
I know it sounds harsh about the hip-hop thing but I do prefer American artists. Tribe called quest was mentioned, Clipse, Nas, Raekwon, MF Doom e.t.c. You can mention British ones if you wish though, maybe I'm wrong. kaini
definitely check out horsepower productions. they were some of the guys who took garage into a lab and mutated it into what is now grime and dubstep and other things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsXLQYE5cgs i would also add anything steve gurley got to lay his paws on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GHPw1VNiFI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sneBkSlauXo On 11/29/2009 at 12:41 AM, Mesh Gear Fox said: tbio2007: if you don't own 36 chambers by wu-tang then go out and get it now. also this yeah. then decide which MCs you like the best (raekwon, ghostface, and ODB for me yo) and get their initial solo albums. almost without fail the first solo albums of MCs featured on 36 chambers are good. kaini
burial fucking idolizes horsepower. snore. you have some real latent dubstep anger issues dude. and that comes from someone who enjoys subverting a dubstep mix with orange wash. Tauhid
I hadn't heard of Horsepower Productions before, but listening to that song and others, I can definitely see where Martyn and 2562 got their influence. I'll have to get a hold of some of their stuff. Why?, Subtle, School Of Seven Bells, Andrew Bird, Menomena 2. I think everyone else has this under control 3. Def go with Horsepower as well as the two Tempa comps, The Roots Of Dubstep and The Roots Of El-B. After that I dunno much. I got the Wookie self-titled LP from 2000 and it's pretty fresh and a good mix of styles (cheesey vocals & stripped beats), maybe try that. 4. Concept 1 (Richie Hawtin's best material, IMO), everything remotely related to Basic Channel (might be obvious), everything related to Farben/Gramm/Jan Jelinek (his earlier stuff is the most 'techno'), the more recent Bvdub/Brock Van Wey stuff (especially the Intrusion mixes), Robert Hood's 'Minimal Nation' (the new version that is remastered w/ bonus mix is quite nice) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/51095-5-recommendations-in-the-following-genres-please/#findComment-1177053 Share on other sites
