Can you keep a secret?

So c'mon guys I'm genuinely interested here, who can keep secrets? When somebody tells you something and they ask you to please tell NO ONE else. Can you do it? Do you go off and tell your best mate, the secret that's just been told to you because you know DAMN WELL they won't tell that secret to anyone else? Even though they will probably go and tell somebody they trust equally as much?

How many of you simply just cannot keep something to yourself now matter who or what it is?

I never used to be able to, ever, especially if drunk. Now I can, but I went through years where no matter what somebody told me, no matter how much respect I had for them I would have to tell their secret to somebody else it just had to.

So come on guys, be honest, can you keep somebodys secrets?

It depends on what it is, but if it would be detrimental to the secreter, I will keep it and defend it with my life.

That's what I used to think but I still couldn't do it. I can now but from about 16-20 I never could.

I can easily keep secrets if I hear them from my wife or at work...and I hear good stuff at work.

If it's someone I don't really care about I will tell them that their secret won't be safe with me. If I give a damn then yes. For some reason loads of people like to confide in me, I don't know why.

I can and will if I respect the person telling the secret.

I would trust you. You make it quite obvious that the people you respect, you respect highly, on the flipside you make it blindingly obvious that you hate the people you do too.

i'd tell the person telling the secret that i would guard it with my life, but then i'd tell everyone because it's funny

yes i never tell a secret and will take many to my grave. i value personal integrity and trust.

It depends on if I can gain power from the secret in some way by selectively operating on the information contained within.

I'm keeping a secret right now. It's driving me crazy.
