Man this kids show has amazing music

I've been working my way through this series as I've completely fallen in love with the soundtrack (the bit 15 seconds in of the title sequence has one of the most beautiful chord progressions I've heard in a long time). It's so undeniably French and awesome, does anyone now of any similar artists of this era producing this kind of kitsch-70s music ?

There are some collections you can buy as well, if that massive list is too intimidating. There's one with a lot of his electronic stuff, Le Monde Electronique De Francois De Roubaix.

Things of his that have similarities with the Chapi Chapo soundtrack would be Pépin La Bulle, La Scoumoune, Les Caïds, Les Amis, Le Manège Aux Images, À Vous De Jouer Milord, L'Antarctique (which WéMè rereleased didn't they?) -- and you should watch L'Homme Orchestre ASAP! Not only is the soundtrack great but the film looks beautiful.

As far as other guys, Vladimir Cosma has an excellent album Enfance. A bit different from FDR, but I think you'll dig it. I'm interested in finding more myself!

Woah, that's a mad coincidence - Boomkat have the LP in this week and I was planning to buy it as the samples were awesome but they were out of stock, I had no idea that it was by the same guy ! Fingers crossed they have it back soon ...

This is it, as much as I love the whole Ghost Box / Hauntology stuff, it's all quite British and BBC Radiophonic sounding. However sometimes you do get more continental sounding tracks like Advisory Circle's - Mogadon Coffee Morning - Click here to listen (probably my favourite track from the album) and reminds me of the music from this creepy show I used to watch as a kid:

along with ghost box/hauntology, you might be into piero umiliani and other library electronic music, raymond scott, etc. Delia Derbyshire's Electro Sonic might be something you're into as well?

yea, francis de roubaix has put out a lot of great music. If you haven't already, check out the various compilations of his work (the ones that emacy put out are a good starting point)... I think that weme is also releasing a compilation of his music this month.

On the BOC scale of 1-10 (1=complete lack of BOC and 10=completely BOC) i rate this 8.

Roubaix is my favorite French composer hands down. Glad to see him getting noticed on here. Pretty easy to see how Air were influenced by him when you listen to his stuff.

In that a lot of releases from France in the late 60 - mid 80s had a very unique sound to them in terms of production style, chord progression and synth use.

I have been singing the words Chapi Chapi, Chapoo practically all my life, only vaguely recalling that it was from some tv show! Thanx for re-introducing me to this!

I can only surmise it came on my local PBS station before Tout Le Bon, a "learn French as you watch" show that had a catchy theme, and held my young mind entranced for some reason unbeknownst to me even now.
