mcbpete
I've been working my way through this series as I've completely fallen in love with the soundtrack (the bit 15 seconds in of the title sequence has one of the most beautiful chord progressions I've heard in a long time). It's so undeniably French and awesome, does anyone now of any similar artists of this era producing this kind of kitsch-70s music ? Guest futuregirlfriend
You're right about that 15 sec mark. I really recommend all of François De Roubaix's stuff, even the things which are a little more serious and not much to do with this thread. You can grab a decent amount of it here (hopefully it's all still active, if it isn't and you want something specific I can probably upload without much delay) http://pauldurango.blogspot.com/2009/03/francois-de-roubaix-megapost-real-200th.html There are some collections you can buy as well, if that massive list is too intimidating. There's one with a lot of his electronic stuff, Le Monde Electronique De Francois De Roubaix. Things of his that have similarities with the Chapi Chapo soundtrack would be Pépin La Bulle, La Scoumoune, Les Caïds, Les Amis, Le Manège Aux Images, À Vous De Jouer Milord, L'Antarctique (which WéMè rereleased didn't they?) -- and you should watch L'Homme Orchestre ASAP! Not only is the soundtrack great but the film looks beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALVtyyipVs8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZkyhgPLkoM As far as other guys, Vladimir Cosma has an excellent album Enfance. A bit different from FDR, but I think you'll dig it. I'm interested in finding more myself! Just remembered this. I need to find out who Colbourne & Wisdom are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ4RgPs7nCE Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/51295-man-this-kids-show-has-amazing-music/#findComment-1181809 Share on other sites

L'Antarctique (which WéMè rereleased didn't they?) -- Woah, that's a mad coincidence - Boomkat have the LP in this week and I was planning to buy it as the samples were awesome but they were out of stock, I had no idea that it was by the same guy ! Fingers crossed they have it back soon ... On 12/6/2009 at 4:16 AM, ieafs said: yeah i dunno, i imagine all those british hauntologists don't go for anything that straight do they? This is it, as much as I love the whole Ghost Box / Hauntology stuff, it's all quite British and BBC Radiophonic sounding. However sometimes you do get more continental sounding tracks like Advisory Circle's - Mogadon Coffee Morning - Click here to listen (probably my favourite track from the album) and reminds me of the music from this creepy show I used to watch as a kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0GKvbmrG1w (fast forward to 40 secs in) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily. Guest KY
along with ghost box/hauntology, you might be into piero umiliani and other library electronic music, raymond scott, etc. Delia Derbyshire's Electro Sonic might be something you're into as well? Guest epsy
Roubaix is my favorite French composer hands down. Glad to see him getting noticed on here. Pretty easy to see how Air were influenced by him when you listen to his stuff. mcbpete
In that a lot of releases from France in the late 60 - mid 80s had a very unique sound to them in terms of production style, chord progression and synth use. EDIT: I've just bought the 2x12'' of L'Antarctique... from Norman Records so looking forward to listening to this one Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily. Person90
My god! I have been singing the words Chapi Chapi, Chapoo practically all my life, only vaguely recalling that it was from some tv show! Thanx for re-introducing me to this! I can only surmise it came on my local PBS station before Tout Le Bon, a "learn French as you watch" show that had a catchy theme, and held my young mind entranced for some reason unbeknownst to me even now.
