Were New Order really a little bit shit?

Come on, we all pretended to love them in the 80s, and Blue Monday really was good...20 years ago when we weren't absolutely sick of it. And even the compilation album, Substance, was pretty decent.

But they got away when some amount of crap too. And anyone who disagrees should listen to Technique. Parts of it sound like a car crash. I still regret forking out £7 on that cassette. And subsequent stuff was all a little bland, when the world of electronic music was really pushing boundaries.

So am I right?

i wasnt even slightly around for it, but i cant stand it. i imagine being in manchester in clubs fucked off your face on ecstacy made it incredible though. i watched 24 hour party people a few nights back, quite a fun film.

Like any artists, some was good, some was wank.

i can think of a few artists where that is untrue.

blue monday and bizarre love triangle are among the best songs ever made, so i always hold them in high regard regardless of the rest of their output

joy division died with ian curtis so they can't compare

It would have been a bit strange to want to like everything that they did, as they were a pretty one dimensional outfit. But still for those few tracks where their sound really hit the spot. Well i think that inspired a few kids out there yeah. So kudos to them for that.

What was the motivation behind the post. Some hipsters annoying you with their propensity to worship things without reigning themselves in to a point beyond the call of logic? heh

yeah me too. i meant to say "many", not any.

lowlife is an awesome album. and the video version of perfect kiss (with the frog sounds and whatnot) is 'well wickid'.

love joy division. havent liked one thing new order have done. perfect kiss, listened to for the first time just now, is okay for about 40%, but generally it can be summed up by the adjective annoying. i don't doubt they were hugely influential regarding the music i love now, but i can't listen to a track for more than 20-30 seconds. i even hate the singer. the other one doesn't talk enough for me to dislike him. but he puts in a good effort nevertheless.

Power Corruption & Lies is the only album I think is worth buying by them...
