Finally, A Way To Control Firefox's Rampant Memory Usage

Recommended Posts

Seems a bit odd that this would require an extension, no? Something like memory bloat should be addressed in the core, I thought on the whole that ff has aimed for light, fast, stable, etc. Probably give this a try anyway.

What this extension does is auto-purge the memory FF is no longer using based on the limits set. But I agree, this is something the app itself should handle. Chrome has a Purge Memory button on it's processes tab.

or just install 4 gigs of ram and never worry about it again.

People have less than 4GB of RAM these days?

6GB of DDR3. My PC goes so fast it screams. That's my contribution to this thread. Nick my luts

Why the fuck would you ever need that? Do you like to run several games of GTA IV simultaneously?

Nah, I got a good deal on RAM when I bought the parts for this machine. Also, all my life I've had a crap machine that meant I had to wait three or four years after a decent PC game had come out for a machine good enough to play it. So I thought I'd be ahead of the curve. I do run W7 64bit though, and Empire Total War, which just gets by on maximum graphics.

FF 3 has been much better about RAM usage. Used to make my machine really scream, but it's not bad at all these days. Only 2GB here on my aging MBP...

I got 1gb here and it sucks. Mozilla is kicking my ass all over the place as the new add-on doesn't work for me as well.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

Hmm. while I indeed have gotten it to install, it doesn't seem to be working much, if at all upon browser restart, but the test is leaving it open for a bit and seeing what happens. Only time will tell.

I'd guess the same reason 2GB was once ok and now you need 4GB.

so is it worth it? I have 4GB on my laptop and 6 on my desktop, so I don't think this will even be worth it. Although youtube threads can get a bit crazy since I have my settings showing 100 posts/page
