I'm typing this on an iPod. I fell asleep with a pint, when I woke up it was in my laptop. Repeatedly slamming a door on my head and screaming hasn't fixed the problem. I've opened it up and cleaned the guts and motherboard carefully with a damp then dry cloth. A hair dryer has been lightly blowing on it for a few hours. Later tomorrow I'm going to put the battery in and see if it'll turn on, I strongly anticipate it won't and that the whole thing is fried (it was on when I fell asleep). Warranty is gone and apple don't do spillages for free anyway. Is there anyone else who deals with this and don't charge an arm and a leg? Wouldn't the motherboard need replacing? Thanks. I'm a twat.

Aww man, that fucking sucks balls! I thought I'd lost my PC forever after a cunting virus twatted the registry but I managed to fix it, which was nice.

But to answer your question, I have no idea. Hope you get it fixed though mate.

i spilled a pint all over a drum machine while it was on once. Opened it up and submerged the whole thing in a bucket of warm water with washing up liquid in. Detergent is importamt cause sugary stuff stays and short circuits shit. I sponged it thoroughly then soaked it in plain water then left it sitting on towel over a radiator for a couple of days. It worked perfectly. Don't know about laptops though. It's probably fucked.

I'd leave it for at least a week before even thinking of turning it back on. One day definitely won't be enough, at least not in winter.

EDIT: In fact, scrap that. I wouldn't turn it on at all until you've taken it to a specialist.

Ok I think it was too late to do the full water thing, I've dried it the best I could. There is some green and orange residue on parts of the board, looks a bit like rust. Could these be burnt out bits? I'm shitting myself.

definitely remove the hard drive before you turn it on. if the laptop is fucked you still may be able to recover your data by sending it to a specialist, but it's expensive

house insurance = better laptop.

if it's fucked there's no point trying to fix it, laptops cost way more than they're worth to fix. may as well claim on the insurance and get a better one.

I really hope you have an external HD idrn, otherwise that would suck ass.
