I was a fan of AWK in 2001, bought his album, because it was all about banging chicks, sweat, love and partys. plus he liked to party hard.

plus how can you shun an album with song titles like:

"Party Hard"

"Take It Off"

"She Is Beautiful"

"Party til You Puke"

"Fun Night"

"I Get Wet"

"We Want Fun"

"Make Sex"

this actually strikes me as plausible cos when dude originally surfaced in 2002 he was a lot more self-destructive than 'current' AWK

also he's fucking writing movies and producing lee perry and shit now, which wouldn't strike me as likely with the 'previous' AWK

after watching some youtube videos, he seems like a smart guy and comes across as well spoken too.

I was in a state of confusion about AWK's success at the time because his music was strangely bad. Like really really bad. He stuck out like a sore thumb. It was as if 2 extremely powerful people had a bet to see if they could get people to buy into it. Humanity -1

my mind is either blown or unconvinced; i'm not quite following though. so is andrew w.k. somebody who has never appeared publicly? or has the real andrew w.k. appeared as himself at one point in his career, and somebody else posing as him in another?

prior to 2005 andrew wk did loud, shouty metal so facepalm he transcended it, and made the occasional good track in process.

he would beat himself up and cut himself and generally make shit of himself onstage. most photos of pre-2005 wk involve blood and occasionally nudity.

the post-2005 andrew wk wears a beret, smokes gitanes, drinks double espressos, and in between his main activities of producing albums for lee scratch perry and shaving sasha grey's snatch in the name of art, he spends his time declining the opportunity to narrate documentaries on things like jacques derrida or an obscure font and getting paid to show up at events.

I think it's neat that this may have been a joke persona from the get go because the music and schtick was so obviously god awful.

since when was it a secret that it was a joke persona?

i'm so confused. it was obviously a joke from the get go. how could you not realize that the whole thing was an ironic persona, and still is to some degree? also i watched the video in the first link. i think he's just saying that the persona has changed. i can't find any evidence that the actual performer ever changed, unless some other guy was doing the music before and now isn't? wtf

weird. I think I complicated things in here. I actually didn't know that this fellow was aving a laff when he first came out... I just thought he was shit/retarded and ignored the whole andrew wk movement. When I read this thread I noticed that chrismoss said he liked him and bought the first record so I thought that people actually took him seriously and just had bad taste.
