i don't get it really. i guess you had to be there. i don't think i've heard any 80s sample based electronic music that i really enjoyed. besides industrial stuff i guess, but even that's rather hit and miss. don't get me wrong, i LOVE 70s electronic music, but as soon as samplers were invented, everyone started using them TOO MUCH!

Negativland were basically pioneers in appropriating samples and culture jamming. Were they influential? i would say yes, especially in how they fucked with mainstream media. They were also influential in how some people started to view the ideas of copyright.

yeah, i can appreciate that, but that doesn't make the music more enjoyable, imo.

I think it's kind of more like thinking about it in terms of performance art as opposed to just "music". But if you don't like sampling then you don't like sampling. :)

aye, i guess so. and it's not that i don't like sampling, but i basically only like it when the original source material is mangled beyond recognition hehe.
