Thats right, they’re back!

After a hiatus of almost 9 years the legendary trio of Christian Fennesz, Jim O’Rourke and Peter Rehberg have returned with a new studio album. Technically the first studio album as previous releases were edits of live performances.

They spent a week in Studio GOK Sound, Tokyo to lay down some stunning electronic works. Whereas previously the emphasis was on a chaotic blend of found samples mangled through their mobile computing systems to create a humorous oddball sound, ‘In Stereo’ implements a more wider instrumental palette of analogue & digital synthesis, guitar, piano, bass and percussion. What they do maintain is the ability to make a near psychedelic audio blend where its impossible to determine who does what.

Released as CD digipack and deluxe gatefold double vinyl which features an extra slice of classic Fenn O’Berg magic beauty.

‘In Stereo’ ...for you.

hmm, just noticed this from the bleep newsletter:

  Quote
The powerhouse avant-garde trio of guitar-destroyer Christian Fennesz, Mego boss Pita Rehberg, and US alternative legend Stephen O' Malley gather again behind their laptops for the first time in eleven years for this ear-tingling new work. Beyond the circuit mangling electronics are wave after wave of heavily processed analogue instruments, drums, guitars, pianos all collude into a seething wall of noise that is sometimes frighteningly dissonant and at other times quite delicate and wondrous. Necessary purchase.

lol, is it o'malley or o'rourke? there's a pretty big difference! bleep fail?

I am quite sure this is O'Rourke, unless...

I listened to the clips and they sound like minimalist wank. I really like the previous FennO'bergs, should I still give this one a try and spend like 20 bucks on it?

I finally could hear it, my advice is that you stay away from this record. There are a few nice passages, where you can hear fennesz's signature, but on the overall the record is weak. It could have been made 10 years ago. I believe that Rehberg is the weak link, I've never really liked what he does.

this is a let down. with such a heavy-hitter like fennesz it's disappointing to hear something so...average and unexciting.

a few choice bits but overall not something that'll hold up. in fact, it sounds dated on the day of its release.

didnt heard the album yet but maybe it is similar to a recent fennesz/rehberg collab :

this one is truly abstract & weird but i like it a lot : few sounds happens but after a while you realize the few sounds are actually fantastic.

Great material that is really far from the extatic/funny mood of the first FennOBerg cds.
