Snaith recorded the album in Wales and in Junior Boy Jeremy Greenspan's Hamilton, Ontario studio. Guest stars include a quartet of Toronto free-jazz horn players and Born Ruffians' Luke Lalonde, who sings closer "Jamelia". At this site, anyone who gives an email address can download opener "Odessa".

In a statement, Snaith described the album's sound thusly: "I got excited by the idea of making dance music that's liquid in the way it flows back and forth, the sounds slosh around in pitch, timbre, pan... Dance music that sounds like it's made out of water, rather than made out of metallic stuff like most dance music does."

Swim:

01 Odessa

02 Sun

03 Kaili

04 Found Out

05 Bowls

06 Leave House

07 Hannibal

08 Lalibela

09 Jamelia

Andorra is one of my favorite albums. I have high expectation for this one.

Very exciting! Andorra has been in my regular rotation since its release and I'm still not tired of it. Also smitten with the Pink Room performance clips.

But aaaahhhh why must he announce it so early? I hate waiting so long. Maybe I should stay away from this section of the forum.

Edit:

Listening to Odessa - interesting new structural direction he's taking. I'm a little worried I'm not going to like it as much! I like the rythmical layering and sound choices but straightforward dance coming from Caribou might take some getting used to! Cool sound intro around 4:10... I wonder if each track will blend with the next (judging by Snaith's statement and intro of new sounds late into the track).

Cool, definitely checking this out. Like Four Tet, I'm glad that he tries different things sometimes.

I did like that Manitoba record, but every time I listened to it, I couldn't shake the feeling that it really sounded JUST LIKE the second Chapterhouse record. (Funnily the only person that ever agreed with this assessment was Nat from Sonic Cathedral because everyone else was horrified that I'd owned that record.)

I don't think I like Odessa but I might have to listen a few more times. I'll be disappointed if I don't like this album, but honestly nothing on earth can be worse than the new Goldfrapp single in terms of disappointment in someone you expected much from.

I need to replace my copy of In Flames my buddy lost. :(

Dance music made from water sounds great. May end up blind-buying this.

It leaked.

It's very original, very fresh, very optimistic as usual with Caribou. Most tracks are a 4/4 beat with odd instrumentation. There is one that is pure soul music, I mean even souler than Lidell.

Recommended.

Edit: LOL, the soul track is not part of the album actually, it was just part of my iTunes.

Gotta wait- I know it will be good anyway. I've been listening to all of his other discs lately.

I'm gonna try to hold out until this is released... also seeing him in Boston in May which should be the hotness.

For y'all who checked out the leak, how does is measure up in comparison to his previous albums? From what I've read from reviews and other fans I gather that everyone creams their pants over Up In Flames and Andorra, and while I do like those albums I actually prefer Start Breaking My Heart and The Milk of Human Kindness more, they just strike me as being more adventurous and creative.

So basically I'm wondering if this is another album of glo-pop or has he nicely tinkered with the formula.

Only listened to this through soundcloud so far but really digging it so far (especially sun, wicked track). A lot of parallels between this and four tet's latest, they almost feel like sister albums. Seeing him next week and am really curious as to what the live show will be like...
