these types of discussions are really interesting to me now finally after a long time recording and thinking bout all the subtleties of audio. I will definitely continue to watch a lot of these types of video's now. Thanks for posting indeed.

Very cool video. This is quite reassuring. I recently had the opportunity to see my engineer friend (whom I was assisting at a session) debate with the studio owner about the musical-sounding differences of two high-end time clocks. I believe it was an Apogee of some sort and a Gazelle clock. He was talking about the tonal effects of recording a session with one device clocking the samples and the other. This struck me as completely esoteric and potentially a load of shit. Now, after having viewed this presentation, I'm glad to say that I can rest assured that the differences they "heard" were most likely perceptual tricks. This is something of a load off, cause it eases my previous prejudice that it really is not worth worrying about as much.

audiophiles and studio engineers get tricked by perceptual auditory tricks perhaps more than any other group of people on the planet

at least their $100,000 preamp and D/A converter purchases would make one believe this

that video was really entertaining, so thanks for posting it. If anyone else wants to laugh a bit more, then here are some testimonials about that power cord that they brought up in the video http://essentialsound.com/guitar-bass.htm "Simply the best power cable I've ever used.

My sound is coming out so good in a way where

all frequencies have the same presence." :fail:

Fuck me, if I clicked on that link I'd probably smash the internet apart in anger...

Surely if this is the case they could back it up with proper numerical/graphical data. Run it through a spectral view or something, show me something that proves that it's physically better and not some namby pamby description that means nothing other than you spent too much money on a lead.

Edit: 1 hour later - I've only just seen the video and realised this is exactly the point to your post (and the video itself)!

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

it's just funny how the more knowledgeable you are about a particular subject, doesn't necessarily mean it makes you more intelligent or rational in with decisions you make with your wallet. i would argue that especially with audio stuff it's the other way around, and companies exsist merely to prey upon these perceptual illusions and anal retentive search for the highest quality produt imaginable (whether they can hear it or not)

it really feels like being in the twilight zone to seriously argue with someone on why an Apogee converter sounds '10x better than a normal digital audio converter'
