somebody just told me a person i met last night was his step-sister's brother. and he meant it.

i'm guessing half siblings? Often there are a lot of half brothers and sisters that don't or barely know each other which makes them often referenced to in these distant and confusing ways.

I really think it depends. The could be step/half cousins, or not related to you at all.

actually, my deductive conclusion last night was:

MY STEPSISTER'S BROTHER

if someone is someone else's brother, then i'm same relation with both of them, no matter what that relation is (except for what those relations are called by gender, e.g. brother/sister)

that simply means that i would be in same relation with her brother as i am with her (stepsister), which would mean - a stepbrother.

ergo, impossible relation.
