after reading the whole interview, this guy is smarter and wittier than i ever imagined. he's self-aware (and self-absorbed) to a fault, but my perception of him has flipped in a good way. everyone is highlighting the worst, most bro'ish parts of the interview.

but his music is terrible, which, given his obvious intelligence and musical background, makes me think that he's being a little insincere with his art.

john mayer is an enigma to me.

he is clearly articulate, smart and funny. He understands his fans, and how to mock them, the bear suit incident and the toe fungal powder thingy, along with entertaining appearances on Tim and Eric and Chappelle's Show all prove this in my eyes. I met him for about ten minutes on his Sheryl Crow/Mayer tandem tour, as my uncle was playing in Crow's band, and he was friendly, charming and fun. He is more interesting than most the people that circle in his world.

He also clearly loves being a total douchebag and bossing people around because he can, but also has ego problems as a result and thinks his music and his face are the best thing since sliced bread.

He is a very technically gifted guitar player and a decent singer.

His actual music makes me want to shit all over his smug face.

I like him because he recorded a nice cover of radiohead's kid a. i have no idea what the rest of his muisc is like.
