I remember buying Electro 7 (streetsounds) on vinyl in 1985. That was when I first got into hip-hop. This track was on Hip-Hop (Electro) 20 and apart from the first 2 Public Enemy albums is proberbly my favorite track from my hip-hop days. After NWA released their first album I lost interest in everything hip-hop and started to get into Black Sabbath and Slayer. Still a timeless top tune (but no video).

what distinction are you making between rap and hip-hop?

That's a complex question. I hate the confines of what makes music fit in certain categories. For example someone may not consider someone rapping over heavy metal to be hip hop. I don't want a debate, I just want some old ass beats and rhymes that people enjoyed back in the day

i used to love this song. video taped it off a music show and played to death (i was poor)

A member of the non sequitairiate.

I'm 35

High school grade 11/12 was fucking when shit was going off. 92/93

(yes, I know the song's name is "the choice is yours" but the audio in this track is not bad for youtube)

(yes this is from 89, but it was still hotness in 92)

(and I remember hearing this in 91 on the college station when I used to record shit off the radio, classic)

then in 93 Wu Tang blew shit up, and in 94 Nas dropped Illmatic, and how the fuck you gonna top that?

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Definitely anything by Public Enemy and LL Cool J. "Fear of a Black Planet" blew my 11 year old mind, as did "Mama Said Knock You Out"... to a lesser (but valid) extent, of course.

So much shit takes me back, but this one takes the cake...

chen pretty much summed it up there. nice. yea, im 34 so this stuff was in its prime in 8th grade, freshman year. de las soul, i forgot about that 3ft high and rising album. that was so different then. 3rd bass, kmd, all that took off around then. i remember when wu came out, my buddy has a 77 black cutlass with a kicker box in it. we used to drive around smoking a bong made out of a gatorade bottle and a ratchet. those were the days.

i think hip hop is the genre, and rap is the style of singing
