I cant get enough of their album "Funky Kingston". I first heard about them as a part of the soundtrack for the movie "This is England" and Ive been a fan ever since.

 

Instrumental reggae tends to be a bit boring. Vocals keep things interesting in my opinion.

 

So please recommend away.

my wife who is a reggae addict says : Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Whaler, Ken Booth, Desmond Decker (she says both of these guys kind of predate reggae as an established genre)

 

edit: fun fact, Toots & the Maytals are one of the first known acts to use the term reggay (spelled differently in it's origin)
