I think Gyral is a good place to start but needs some patience for all the subtlety to come through. Plan B is probably his most futuristic sounding album and a favorite of mine, also a good start. If you are into industrial then give Evanescence a spin, if you are up for some grind core Vae Solis is a classic. I got into Mick based off of Vae Solis and it's been quite the journey seeing where he has brought his sound over the years - looking forward to the new Scorn myself: http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Scorn-Refuse-Start-Fires/413588

Either way, I hope you get into his sound, daunting at first but atmospheric and rewarding as fuck.

The cover art for that new album looks fantastic...Apeofnaples, why don't you post that in the upcoming releases forum? Is there a release date yet?

As far as beginning recommendations i would say start at Evanescence and move forward through the Scorn catalogue picking out albums as you go. Thats where i started and it worked

very well for me, now i own everything he has ever done. Its hard for me to pick a favorite although i know i don't really like anything before Evanescence.

I would say Mick Harris is one of the most important musicians of our time. (at least in my opinion)

No release date for Refuse; Start Fires, so it didn't seem appropriate to put it in that thread yet.

looks like it's going to be released on OHM RESISTANCE.

there is no information yet, but i could see it written in small letters at the bottom of the album art that you linked.

can't wait for this, i'm very excited! if you would ..keep me informed on what you discover

if I like Lull-Cold Summer, what would you recommend in terms of his other side projects?

i really dont know anything about the guy, but he seems incredibly important to people over here, so im eager to check it out.

i don't believe Mick dose anything quite like his LULL project. i would have to recommend Whine under his Scorn alias if you

like LULL. Whine is mostly live material recorded on Scorn's European tour following the release of Zander, there are alot of soft

ambient sections in the album, but lots of beats too.

I dunno, LULL is pretty minimal compared to his other work, it's hard to recommend anything based on that album alone.

If you like Lull you could also check out his Murder Ballads albums with Martyn Bates. The drones/soundscapes are pure LULL but you also have Martyn bates whispering/singing over them, they're really beautiful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQVub2Ip_Jo

Great tunes for a cemetery stroll :)

my favorite release of his isn't under the Scorn moniker it's under his own name and is a lot more calmer & different hip hop stuff than under his Scorn name

under the Scorn name : Logghi Barogghi , Gyral, Stealth. Stealth (his latest full length) is under appreciated because a lot of people felt mick wasn't progressing, but shit if it isn't better and more humanistic than 99% of dubstep music out there

Thanks for the reminder! Time to catch up - haven't really listened much to his stuff since the two first Scorn albums. Caught them live in Norway a couple of times back in 92 and 94, which was pretty sweet.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I thought he was part of the band Nailbomb but seems I was wrong.

He used to be part of Napalm Death.

As did Justin Broadrick of Godflesh fame...

me too! hehe

anybody else here a fan of his hednod sessions? It's seriously fucking underrated. Just checked out Evanescence after along time of not listening to it and i was very impressed at how well it's aged. Almost no chill-outish music from this era is this fucking dark and foreboding. It definitely stands out from the rest
