beerwolf
Anyone be so kind to point me in the right direction of some Mick Harris/Scorn? Just checked his discography and its a tad overwhelming! Guest tibbar
gyral, elipsis, evanescence, anamnesis, the Equations of Eternity stuff, his disc with Mark Spybey, zander... thatsa good start i think Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53447-mick-harrisscorn/#findComment-1243394 Share on other sites
Guest Apeofnaples
I think Gyral is a good place to start but needs some patience for all the subtlety to come through. Plan B is probably his most futuristic sounding album and a favorite of mine, also a good start. If you are into industrial then give Evanescence a spin, if you are up for some grind core Vae Solis is a classic. I got into Mick based off of Vae Solis and it's been quite the journey seeing where he has brought his sound over the years - looking forward to the new Scorn myself: http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Scorn-Refuse-Start-Fires/413588 Either way, I hope you get into his sound, daunting at first but atmospheric and rewarding as fuck. The cover art for that new album looks fantastic...Apeofnaples, why don't you post that in the upcoming releases forum? Is there a release date yet? As far as beginning recommendations i would say start at Evanescence and move forward through the Scorn catalogue picking out albums as you go. Thats where i started and it worked very well for me, now i own everything he has ever done. Its hard for me to pick a favorite although i know i don't really like anything before Evanescence. I would say Mick Harris is one of the most important musicians of our time. Whine is mostly live material recorded on Scorn's European tour following the release of Zander, there are alot of soft ambient sections in the album, but lots of beats too. I dunno, LULL is pretty minimal compared to his other work, it's hard to recommend anything based on that album alone. Guest Apeofnaples
If you like Lull you could also check out his Murder Ballads albums with Martyn Bates. The drones/soundscapes are pure LULL but you also have Martyn bates whispering/singing over them, they're really beautiful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQVub2Ip_Jo Great tunes for a cemetery stroll :) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53447-mick-harrisscorn/#findComment-1243592 Share on other sites
awepittance
my favorite release of his isn't under the Scorn moniker it's under his own name and is a lot more calmer & different hip hop stuff than under his Scorn name http://www.discogs.com/release/422795 under the Scorn name : Logghi Barogghi , Gyral, Stealth. Stealth (his latest full length) is under appreciated because a lot of people felt mick wasn't progressing, but shit if it isn't better and more humanistic than 99% of dubstep music out there Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53447-mick-harrisscorn/#findComment-1243621 Share on other sites

psn
Thanks for the reminder! Time to catch up - haven't really listened much to his stuff since the two first Scorn albums. Caught them live in Norway a couple of times back in 92 and 94, which was pretty sweet. awepittance
im shocked i didnt spam my own label's release of Scorn, a limited edition 500 copies of coke bottle clear vinyl 2 exclusive tracks kind of following in the tradition of stealth. photography on the fully color sleeve by Mick Harris http://www.normanrecords.com/records/108280 probably the prettiest looking/most collectiable Scorn release On 2/15/2010 at 10:23 PM, Rubin Farr said: I paid to see a Pigface concert once bc he was opening and the twat didn't even show bc his wife was having a baby. Man up and put your fans first bitch! Lol me too! hehe anybody else here a fan of his hednod sessions? It's seriously fucking underrated. Just checked out Evanescence after along time of not listening to it and i was very impressed at how well it's aged. Almost no chill-outish music from this era is this fucking dark and foreboding. It definitely stands out from the rest Edited March 8, 2010 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53447-mick-harrisscorn/#findComment-1264311 Share on other sites
