I don't see how anyone could consider them pop instead of rock. Even their more pop-oriented songs are still rock above all. Green Day write pop songs...but I'd still call them a rock band before I call them a pop band.

I'd have to say rock as well. Even though The Wall was poppy disco influenced, up until that point they were pure rock. The Wall is my least favorite record though.

Depends on the era. The early Syd Barrett stuff is quite definitely psychedelic pop in the finest tradition. So, considering I don't really listen to much further than the early 70s, I'd see them as a pop band. However, the vast bulk of their music is within the rock genre. (It's just their less interesting output.)

pop is such a broad term.. rock is pop. so they were both i guess.

I'd say popprogrock.

Definitely rock, there's too little radio friendly tracks and formulaic output.

Pop music and popular music aren't always the same thing. Some of their music does fit both definitions, but 'rock' is still the constant in all of their music.

it's funny, i actually got to see them play a live show in 1975 after i discovered an aleph in my basement a few months ago. they pretty much rocked my socks off.
