non-album tracks on eps and singles

this is one of the best things musicians can do: release eps or singles with tracks that aren't on the concurrent album

i don't mean wack remixes like underworld have taken to doing recently... gotta be unreleased excellence by that artist

it seems this occurs more frequently in british music and in our kind of electronic music in particular... feels good man

Plenty of non-British artists release EPs too. I love EPs, they're usually very solid as there's no room for filler. I'll post some later but I gotta go now.

it's more of a dance music thing though.

i remember Underworld's Dark & Long single had what was labeled a bunch of remixes but they were mostly just all together different tracks, and some really good ones too like Thing In A Book.

those dark & long singles are some of my favorite releases by any artist ever

now there's a single where the two B sides were as good if not better than anything on the album.

"Please Help Me" on Push Upstairs is good.

"Oich Oich" on Pearls Girl is one of their best tracks ever including a bunch of other stuff on there.

i've got "Tiny Clicks" and "Headset" on Two Months Off

"Ansum" on Dinosaur Adventure 3D is decent.

"Peach Tree" is on several of the Oblivion with Bells singles and that's pretty epic.

i made cdrs of them for listening in the car and let me tell you of the gasms

Yeah, I love it when I buy a compilation with one of my favorite artists and it's a completely new track.

Having album tracks in an EP is a bad habit a lot of artists have. If you are gonna put the tracks in an album after, why put them in the EP? Of course because the tracks are going to be sold twice ...

I like the way the last realease from Bibio (The apple and the tooth) is structured. Half EP half remixes. I just hope he doesnt put the first four tracks in a future album.

i almost bought Mother Earth/The Hump one time from a guy on discogs for $130, but i just didn't think i could spare it at the time + The Hump seemed pretty shit on YouTube. i don't know what the other two mixes were like.
