Retrofit or CV converter?

Recommended Posts

Guest butane bob

Hi peeps.

I recently bought an SH 101 and I can't decide whether to buy a synhouse MIDIJack and install it myself, or just spend a bit more and get a Kenton Pro Solo.

Advantages of the MIDIJack is that it fits inside. Disadvantage is that it won't run off battery supply, and only does CV/Gate.

Advantage of a Pro Solo is that it can also clock the arpeggiator/sequencer. Disadvantage: $50 more, needs a wall wart PSU, and it's a dirty great metal box.

Anyone done retrofit DIY?

I was not aware that the synhouse retrofit won't run off bat supply.

I think it depends on what you plan to do in the future, if you want to get more non-midi gear it might be an idea to get the converter, as you will be able to use it for other synths as well.

And you don't have to modify a piece of history.

And being able to clock the sequencer would definitely cut the deal for me personally.

I suppose it runs sync24 gear as well and I have a 606 too.

That's my mind made up anyway.

Cheers
