Critique my bands "press package"

In the third paragraph you come across as really pretentious. I advise trying to take some of this pretentiousness out and say what you actually do.

yes the third paragraph is intensely pretentious

though i can relate. some of the things i've typed to labels are borderline psycho

The guy on the right needs a beard.

3rd paragraph is waaay too fancy for an only 2 beard collective

try to arrange the faces that they look at the text not away from it or at least at each other

put the right akai picture on the left too that makes it look more homogeneous

the pictures are really nice

I would also use much bigger pictures as they are really nice

look at apple.com for examples how big they can be

if you're working on a press package (rather than an uber-interactive web-wob-wabble-site), i'd say just whip up something in photoshop, slice it and put it on the web. it will look great (better, at least) and impress any label more than fancy css formatting (you can still put your new skills to use when posting your sliced photoshop template!).

as others have said, the third paragraph is absolutely hilarious:

  Quote
University Acid Squad is a confluence of postmodern apositive deconstructionist theory molded around the classic acid techno aesthetic. Danceability contrasted against the futuristic brutality of the transference of sprit from body to machine is the central theme of their work.

not only are there typos, but it makes you out to be... for lack of nicer words, an ass. i grabbed some of your mp3's from your university-records site and, as far as i can tell, you guys are pretty much standard acid. this isn't to say the music isn't good (i quite liked "are you alive?"), but to advertise this as "postmodern apositive deconstructionist... molded around the classic acid techno aesthetic" is stretching the truth and almost seems desperate. apositive isn't even a word.

make your pictures bigger, as was mentioned. the pictures and the music will speak a lot louder than your words! assume that no one will bother viewing your web page until they've heard your music (they need a reason, don't they!?). what you're all about is much less important than what you are, and (as far as i can tell) you're a group of dudes trying to bang out some awesome acid tunes. that, and a list of where you've performed and how much music you've produced, is all a prospective employer should need to know.

hmm. This page looks like something from 1999. Sorry, just being honest. I don't really want to give specific comments because I think the whole thing is way below what it could be.

If I were you I'd grab a good WP theme, or indexhibit, plunk some embedded soundcloud players there and just tweak up the theme. This page is not doing you any favors.

If you want to be really simple then fuck all the styles and make it look like a mathematician's website.

It's cool that you are learning CSS, but this is not really a good use of it.

Check these sites out. If you ahve hosting you should really think about using some simple CMS.

http://www.indexhibit.org/

wordpress.org

Throw one of these up and you'll have a good modern site you can be proud of, and maintain easily.

Also

soundcloud.com is awesome for stuff like what your doing.

PM me if you want some more tips or anything.

beards aren't important anymore. i've been shaving my face since november and feel damn good. but i digress.

someone said something about whipping something up in photoshop. that's probably the way to go. as i am doing that but with a whole site.

*misses david cross look*

indexhibit is awesome for throwing up a site really quick, with a good structure and ease of update. I'd recommend it to everyone. Also band/music sites with no music players are completely useless.
