Your favorite Oversteps moment(s)?

Recommended Posts

Achtung, Achtung!

do you have already have your favourite moment(s) on Oversteps? I mean moments, the opposite of Gesamtkunstwerking ;)

Which one(s) is it and why?

Mine:

os veix3 --> [1:36-2:05]

It's the change in pitch which shows me they can make music/melody. And the Second bad Vilbel like noise is very welcome here and in very good doses. :music:

Probably obvious, but 00:59 to 2:32 in d-sho qub, love that happy melody. The way the beat drops is fantastic too. Also the first 40 or so seconds of qplay is utter bliss before it goes a lot darker when the percussion comes in.

Yeah, this is where d-sho qub learns running, good flow.... I wish they had developed it a bit more, I think all the deconstruction thingie comes too soon.

Can't check the exact time but the last minute and half of Treale, pure bliss.

No moment for me :D For some reason Treale is not a grower for me, it bores me. I'll have to try hard again.... BTW, the stereo noise here reminds me of the noise in µ-ziq Duntisbourne/2CV... It's just more spatial here in Treale.

Totally, I agree.

Just follow the melody, it didn't strike me as that amazing until I did that. It went from being one of the tracks I care for least to my absolute favourite.

After the opening swell in r ess, the creepy siren sounds panning from one side to the other.

The opening of pt2ph8 is pretty excellent.

That moment about 2:00 into qplay where the melody transitions to a major chord, and there's a nice splashy chord that reminds me of certain sounds on Confield.

When the q-sho dub beat starts it made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it.

st epreo has that really fucking cool acid bass threaded all through it.

The second half of krYlon is really really plaintive and beautiful and it makes me feel like I've wandered into Blade Runner.

man I really got crazy with melody in qplay at 3:30-3:42 (great transition).. and then turiruun tuu rurururuunn... is pure love

Last part of pt2ph5 is beautiful. Reminds me Jaga Jazzist´s slower pieces. Really calming and love the cinematic feel.

Yeah, it's a much better track than pt2ph8. That one's shit.

this part reminds me of Nil alot

The last few minutes of d-sho qub sound like they're straight out of Gerald Donald's recent work, especially later dopplereffekt and der zyklus, which is awesome. In fact, a lot of this album sounds pretty similar to stuff on Calabi Yau Space (and I mean that as a compliment).

It's not necessarily my favorite moment, but I'm always quite bemused by that single droplet of paralel Suns injected at the end of redfall, around the 3:18 mark.

i've been hearing people say that Oversteps sounds like Calabi Yau Space but i can't see the connection at all. Calabi Yau Space has a distinctly spacey electro feel, utilizing very trademark synthesizer sounds and is mostly a dark album. Oversteps uses mostly very organic sounding synths, only a few sounds sound purely electronic and the album feels very happy to me.

I think perhaps since Calabi Yau Space is an 'electronic' album with little beats people tend to think of them similarly, but i think thats the only similar thing about the two.

yeah, they definitely have different tones and sound sources, but i think the similarities go a lot deeper than their both being electronic with little beats. despite having different sound sources, they have similar melodic styles (lots of fast, high notes contrasted with sweeping pads underneath, lots shifting melodies that kind of drift around); they are both rhythmically pretty loose, with sparse, noisy beats; and although i agree that calabi yau space is much darker, they both sound pretty spacey and synthy to me. i honestly think the last few minutes (from around 4:00 to the end) of d-sho qub in particular would sound right at home on that calabi yau space

03:44 - 04:38 of ilanders

The chorus in known(1)

The opening of O=0 from 00:00 - 00:28

The high "ahh" synth in the background of st epreo

see on see is a complete moment of greatness in itself

The melody at the end of Treale

The middle of Yuop, where everything becomes totally obliterated.. complete chaos - what an excellent ending to this album :)

likewise, i love it. the rolling synth sounds like a rhodes electric piano. also, the change at 2:24 is nice. i like how the underlying melody sort of feigns fading out there
