Windows 7

If you are going to run Windows7 x86 you should be fine, but with x64 you might have issues with your interface depending on what you have. Just do a google search and make sure it has driver support first.

I've been using using Windows 7 x64 since RC in my studio and have been very satisfied.

i went from xp to 7 and love windows 7, everything plays and sounds great.

one problem i have though which annoys the fuck out of me is.. u have to fuck with the audio settings on perticular programs to record with internal mic/ext mic or stereo mix.. it becomes a tangled nightmare if you want to keep changing inputs like I do. things start not to work then

when i switch msn back to stereo mix i cant switch it back to internal mic and i cant switch it to internal mic on skype either it crashes.

but apart from that its very nice.

But how long before it takes seconds for the start menu to unroll and that you're systems starts crawling with poisonous (pieces of) crapware ?

That's always been my concern with windows. You always end up formatting you hard drive because of programs (if not viruses) starting at launch time. You just can't have a normal use of your machine (i.e. cracking games, browsing porn, installing shareware programs only to perform a specific task) without being in some serious trouble at some point. Does windows 7 have those kind of problems ?

It reminds me of some xp feature i never found useful. You know, when you download a file with an unknown extension, an alert window pops up and offers you to find what programs could read it. It never worked for me. Is this crap still around ?

dunno. but i have the beta, and now it shuts down every 2 hrs.

it also was supposed to have taken away my desktop background and replaced it with black, but its still here...

i am planning to do a complete upgrade of my pc and in that also move on to windows 7. are the warez version of win7 any good and will they work without problems and get all the updates? i am not really interested in having to go through all kinds of hoops to get it updated and not having it bother me about not being genuine, would it be just more easy to buy an authentic OEM version of it?

from what i read, MS is cracking down on all the different hacks and cracks there is, but apparently not downloading an update with this authentication thingy, will allow you to use a cracked version including all future updates, but dunno how it will work with the upcoming SP. there was something about modding your BIOS and running loaders or something. sounds like a hassle.

I don't know. probably you can't use it anymore. But there was a phone trick to get xp keys for free. basically, when windows( xp that is) asks you to enter the key, he offers you to call a phone number (in case you have lost it). If you call it you run through a habitual multi-choice "then press #" voice menu and finally the voice will give you a horribly long key you'll have to type in windows in order to get a regular key - a key for the key then. Something like this.

So you got the taskbar to your left on XP that used to ask "do you want to copy/copy to/or move this file somewhwere?" and I always made quite a bit of use out of "move" because I'm always shuffling for organizational sake. Wha' happened? I've lost my "move". I haven't been able to do anything other than copy the file/folder, open up the destination separately, paste it, go back to the homebase, and delete the original. I'm telling you, I thought "no big whoop" but I've been fucking things up lately and deleting the wrong things, pasting shit in the wrong spot, etc. It seems silly but can anyone help with that?

I don't really understand, but if it helps, the default action seems to be if you drag drop to a folder on the same drive it moves, if to another drive it copies.

From what I've read there's a new update that busts most cracked copies. It doesn't make your computer unusable though, just puts a little warning on your desktop. I heard

  Reveal hidden contents

does the trick in fooling it. Try Googling that. Luckily someone gave me a legit key from their MSDN account - so I may not be up to date on how to get around coughing up.

@ babar if you avoid installing all sorts of rubbish, run some antivirus and skip adobe reader in favour of sumatra pdf you should be alright.

i've been using both x86 and x64 versions of it, it works perfect. on an old computer it's even faster than xp.

if you want to use a pirated version i think all you have to do is to never let it install updates. but you wont be able to use any legit microsoft software, like word or security essentials.

7 x64 here. Focusrite are being slow with a driver that works 100% but otherwise thumbs up. I've only had a few old programs complain but I let Window's compatibility wizard figure it out.

hmmm...

i just ordered a Focusrite interface. Should i be worried?

I'm planning on running Win7 x86.

It might not be a major problem but if I'm recording something at anything other than 44.1 I can't then open vlc or anything else that parps out audio to check something out. It seems the DAW I'm using will be the only thing audible. In Vista I could leave the Saffire at 96/24 all the time with no problem. It's only a small niggle at the moment.

Also until they updated their support section, installing for the first time was a pain

My interface is in the legacy range now though so perhaps it's not their main priority. Yours might be fully working and setup problem free. It's worth checking the answerbase to see if you have to install your drivers in a funny order or whatever else.

For a "legit" copy you can use the Hazar Loader and it works like a charm! Updates, and everything. Just be sure to do it right after your first boot once you get into the OS. I got this with a copy of the install DVD from the picard ate my bad boy

Windows 7 is the best windows I ever used. And I used many. It actually works great without multiple service packs and it has good relation between user friendliness and advanced practical usage.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.
