pc help please

Recommended Posts

i just replaced a fried PSU in my 2/3 years old Pentium D dual core 3GHz and when i fire it up it just switches off after 10 secs, tries to power up again, switches off after 10 secs, tries to power up again, switches off after 10 secs, tries to power up again, switches off after 10 secs, tries to power up again, switches off after 10 secs, and so on.

any ideas what's going wrong?

you have to wait until it switches off and on 32 times on a 32bit system or 64 times on a 64bit one, because it is booting one bit at a time, the 33rd and 65th are the charm.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

Check that as well as the 20 pin power cable, you've also plugged the 4 pin into where that goes, if needed. Usually it's the upper left of the cpu.

the 4 pin's plugged in too.

do you see anything on the screen at all ?

no it doesn't get as far as booting up so nothing comes up on the screen...

sounds like the new PSU might be broken. make sure that the memory and processor haven't come lose in the swap of the PSU too.

cheers. i'll check.

the old psu that i replaced started switching off randomly before it went kaput so there must be something else wrong. i'll need to take it to a shop cos i'm a noob with this stuff, but i'm skint just now so it'll have to wait.
