A Dilemma

Hello, don't know if anyone knows me in these parts, I never really post here, as I don't write music and stuff.

Anyway, I play most acid/breaks kind of music, and I think I'm getting to the point where I would like to try my hand out in clubs and the like. The problem is that most clubs around where I live (southern US) play mostly hiphop (rare, but there) or "indie"/80s (majority). Just looking to see if anyone on here has had this problem, and what have they done to attempt to solve this.

Idk, I'm rambling a little, but I look at places such as Austin, L.A., Dallas, Memphis, and there is a strong electronic sound in these cities...is moving my only step to fixing this? lolzzzzzz

Well then, get in touch with the owners and promoters. Make yourself a mix CD/tape/wax cylinder and hussle hussle a little. Or even better, promote some shows yourself. You get to choose who plays, give yourself a sweet set and you might even make some cash. If there's nothing around now then that's an opportunity I reckon, not a sign that no-one wants it.

My ideal step would be to promote some shows, etc. myself, and play what I want to play. There's quite a large following for electro/disco (think Daft Punk, Justice, Boys Noize) here, and I think if I had the right connections/budget, I could definitely get a good bit of people to enjoy the music I like. Any tips/sites on promoting your own shows?

where are you from? baton rouge if i remember correctly?

Yeah, I remember you from the chat

do a mix and host it on soundcloud then get on facebook and spam the local clubs that may have punters who'll most likely have an ear for the kinda shit your into and see the reaction

it's also good to be as anonymous as possible until you need to be so a pseudo name of sorts would be in order

facebook is a good promotion tool if you can photoshop pretty promo flyers and build the hype
