I dig some. Picked up Laquarto and Perky recently, quite different from past stuff! I have Itchy Tingles, Sangre Azul, and The Black Old Pueblo too but really haven't spent enough time with any of them. About time to revisit them.

What do you like best?

I think I do like the style of the latest one (Laquarto and Perky) better than the older stuff, even though it may be less unique.

Laquarto and Perky blows away pretty much any retro analog revival record that i've heard (and yes this includes analord,)

amazing album, and sounds like what people should be doing with homemade/DIY synths, not paint by numbers techno

I have decided to play The Black Old Pueblo, it's been a few years. And it's really damn good.

dave wright just has an amazing committment to his modulars -- never seen someone build so much shit. his web site is what got me into circuit bending and SDIY!!!

it was carrionsound back then, though... before he merged it with notbreathing.com

bold claim ... recommend me a track or any other track from not breathing please . can't find anything on youtube apart from a couple of boring clips of some awful recordings of some uninspired modular wanking

check out that album, the whole thing is great. Dave is a jack of all trades, i wouldn't go by his modular synth demonstrations on youtube

hmmm... gave that dude ranch ep a go... It is lacking in (to the point of being devoid of) funk, soul, melody, composition, human warmth and everything else that separates Analord from the bulk of modern electronic machine music.

Think I'll give that Laquarto and Perky a miss

in terms not of sound but of execution and spirit, L&P reminds me of stuff like mike&rich, slagboom, and yes analord. lots of realtime twiddling and happy surprises. sort of krautrocky in that I doubt dave knows exactly what's coming when he starts up his sequencers.

it's a laidback aesthetic that clicks with me, but it may just not be your cup of tea. I will say I don't get the same vibe from any other NB material, including dude ranch.

probably a great idea since the ep sounds nothing like Laquarto and Perky, the blind side of life is a very pleasurable one if i must say

  • 5 months later...

I received Sangre Azul in a CD lot I bought on eBay several years ago when I was in high school, and this album basically introduced me to experimental techno (which I include most music discussed here). I was getting into a lot of industrial music and I had never heard of Invisible Records but I remember first being blown away by "The Ventilator".

Not Breathing is one of my favorite electronic acts, and it's not just because it was the first of the kind that I heard. I really like that this project takes a backseat kind of creativity. It sounds like he is especially responsive to his equipment (even with his circuit bending) and I dig his kind of process I guess. I think this shows in The Black Old Pueblo too.

I agree with the Laquarto and Perky/Analord analogy. I also think it's better, though I'm not a fan of most AFX material.
