you can listen on their website: http://www.thisamericanlife.org which just got updated

can't find a link but a recent favourite was the one about the kids who find abandoned house and the mystery of its contents.

Love this show! Ira came through and did some one man show type thing a few weeks ago. I didn't make it due to lack of funds though...

NPR FTW!

Heard the exact show you speak of with the abandoned house. The fact that the neighbors cared was weird, but ya... This is a good show. One of my fav. episodes is about the teachers in new york that get "transferred" due to their actions (one teacher threw a chair) but actually just go sit in a room in some building and never do anything. There are teachers that have done this for over a year, and they still get paid wtf? waste of $

this american life is one of the best things to ever hit radio.

personal favorites:

anything Jack Hitt has ever done i.e.

Fiasco (the one about the peter pan show)

and

The Super (about his insane brazilian superintendent)

both are fucking lol all over

other good ones:

24 Hours at the Golden Apple

Testosterone

The Story of Bobby Dunbar

What I learned from Television

The Allure of a Mean Friend

Recordings for Someone

but everyone needs to listen to the super

I love this american life, almost every night i listen to past episodes of it while i go to sleep. that abandoned house one is really good. Although the past few nights I have been listening to radio lab http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/ which is somewhat more consistent, also a really good show in the same vein.

It's a good show.

I rarely listen to it, unless I'm driving somewhere when it's on.

By chance I did hear the abandoned house one.

thanks to this thread I just watched the first couple episodes of the TV show on Netflix. Thankfully, it's pretty much the same as the radio show only with visuals (obviously) and in a more condensed form. I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

This is not exciting, but I rode an elevator with Ira Glass once (the show is taped in Chicago). I didn't know who it was at the time, but when we got out, my friend said "that was Ira Glass." He appeared pretty normal.

I definitely like it, although some of their shows are depressing and heartbreaking.

You can stream the tv version on Netflix, which is cool!

avoid the episode with the story about the guy who poses as jesus for oil paintings. we were waiting for the point and it never came.

here's the only interesting thing about that episode:

the guy paints jesus and his disciples using hobos as models. he makes the point that during his life jesus was an outcast.

I kept waiting/hoping for them to show more of his wife. Yeah, that episode was pretty useless.

it wasn't my favorite, but i liked what the artist said about the conclusions you can draw from the style of a person's beard:

that guy likes to hunt, that guy likes camping, that guy is a hobo.

i lolled
