Guest Benedict Cumberbatch
<3 anyone else like this radio show? i didnt know till recently it was a tv show too. they just added it to netflix play instant. the visuals aren't really needed it works best on the radio. you can listen on their website: http://www.thisamericanlife.org which just got updated can't find a link but a recent favourite was the one about the kids who find abandoned house and the mystery of its contents. Hautlle
Love this show! Ira came through and did some one man show type thing a few weeks ago. I didn't make it due to lack of funds though... NPR FTW! Heard the exact show you speak of with the abandoned house. The fact that the neighbors cared was weird, but ya... This is a good show. One of my fav. episodes is about the teachers in new york that get "transferred" due to their actions (one teacher threw a chair) but actually just go sit in a room in some building and never do anything. There are teachers that have done this for over a year, and they still get paid wtf? waste of $ Edited March 13, 2010 by Hautlle Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Hautlle's signature Hide all signatures Albums/EPs Free to DL or stream Newest stuff is on Soundcloud Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54250-this-american-life/#findComment-1268261 Share on other sites
acidphakist
I find the spots interesting, but seldom tune in due to Ira's whiny bitchass voice. Bubba69
I love this american life, almost every night i listen to past episodes of it while i go to sleep. that abandoned house one is really good. Although the past few nights I have been listening to radio lab http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/ which is somewhat more consistent, also a really good show in the same vein. SCONES TO DIE FOR
It's a good show. I rarely listen to it, unless I'm driving somewhere when it's on. Alzado
thanks to this thread I just watched the first couple episodes of the TV show on Netflix. Thankfully, it's pretty much the same as the radio show only with visuals (obviously) and in a more condensed form. I thought it was pretty enjoyable. This is not exciting, but I rode an elevator with Ira Glass once (the show is taped in Chicago). I didn't know who it was at the time, but when we got out, my friend said "that was Ira Glass." He appeared pretty normal. encey
I definitely like it, although some of their shows are depressing and heartbreaking. Guest theSun
the most interesting thing about that episode was just the weirdness of the people that were assembled. it was funny how many people bailed on him. Alzado
it wasn't my favorite, but i liked what the artist said about the conclusions you can draw from the style of a person's beard: that guy likes to hunt, that guy likes camping, that guy is a hobo. i lolled Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Alzado's signature Hide all signatures RIP Farm Eagle Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54250-this-american-life/#findComment-1270321 Share on other sites

Guest tysen
I have heard Dntel and Aphex Twin clips used as background music on the local NPR station here. Also, I took an english class in college where we emulated This American Life. I used Autechre in my spots.
