hey watmm, try my twitter app. it lets you break the 140 char limit.

It uses unicode to replace multiple letters with a single character. This lets you send tweets up to 160 letters and beyond (depending on what letters you use). As far as I know, this is the first Twitter app that can do this.

Let me know how it works.

ps: Thanks to everyone who provided those font screenshots the other day.

Nifty as fuck but doesn't it defeat the purpose of Twitter? I don't touch that shit because I could not, as an adult with a straight face, talk about "Tweeting" or "catching me on Twitter." I know it's the way of the world but it sets my teeth on edge. The 140 character limit was designed to keep you fit in your communication. Basically, it's the xxx Kryptonite :whistling: Cheers all the same though!

People on twitter will switch URL shorteners to save a few letters, so I figure they'd find this useful, too. Sometimes you just need a couple more letters.

both posts are genius. love how encey actually typed that into a word processor and worked out the character length. I do agree that it defeats the purpose of twitter but still useful for those wanting to communicate with twits (I'm talking about the people here) but without the conciseness it requires.

perhaps you should develop one for ppl like sini chaos... one that just ends the tweet with tl;dr.

kuel ;-] ...

+ he won't make money out of it, but if it blows up, there's moucho cred to take to the bank. Maybe job offers.

I'm expecting most Twitter apps to have just copied the idea by the end of the week (without giving me credit, of course). I already saw one guy saying "I should incorporate this in my app"...

But maybe, somewhere in the history of the internet, I'll go down as the guy who invented unicode character compression.

I also invented the bel-air meme, and encrypted hostmasks on IRC, but didn't get credit for those, either :\

Oh yeah, and I also discovered the face in that aphex twin track, but I actually got credit for that one.

I did, though. Back on a forum called genmay (which was one of the biggest forums on the net at the time, and where a lot of 4chan users probably started out), in the year 2002 or 2003...

Fucking ardcore fanboy tactics there.

I always pictured some super bored dude in some insane laboratory with a mess of old spectrographs and stuff used for broadcast analysis popping in Windowlicker just to see what it would look like.
