Using VST's in OSX

Recommended Posts

Guest joshier

I've downloaded a couple of VST's and they install to 'Applications', trouble is when live scans the whole applications folder it pretty much crashes, so I was hoping to install them in a custom directory (Applications > Instruments) but then the sound libraries get confused.

I've attempted to install Battery, FM8 and a piano one.

How do you other Apple heads do this shit?

Thanks.

there should be a folder named as such:

for VSTs

macintosh hd -> library -> audio -> plug-ins -> VST

for AU

macintosh hd -> library -> audio -> plug-ins -> components

scanning your apps folder will rightly send your host software into a rage. most 'big name' plug ins install a stand-alone version (NI for example) which will be in the apps folder, but the plug-in versions go in the folder indicated above. point live at that and you should be disco.

i should mention that you don't have to tell the installers to put the plug-in versions in those folders. if you look at them, you'll likely find that everything is there already.

yeah why the fuck did you put them in applications? when you were installing them it would have automatically chosen the right place in most cases... did you purposely change the install destination to applications? remember - mac sorts everything out 99.9% of the time - just keep pressing ok and don't think you know best when it comes where to install things and you should never ever have any sort of problem.
