Always very excited about new Manual material...

"Manual, a.k.a. Jonas Munk, is considered an influential artist in the circles of dreampop and electronica, touring all over the world, and collaborating, with artists including Ulrich Schnauss, Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), Auburn Lull and, perhaps more surprisingly, members of Tortoise and Sunburned Hand of the Man. (...) The family tree of “Drowned in Light” begins with Harmonia, Ash Ra Temple and Ennio Morricone in the 1970s, Durutti Column and Cocteau Twins in the 1980s, through to Seefeel and Slowdive in the 1990s."

What did you think of Azure Vista?

I love Azure Vista, I love the way the production on it is so massively over-the-top. It's like the aural equivalence of an overexposed photography.

just listened to it for the first time. it surprised me how much more dedicated the melodies and percussion are on this album. it kind of reminded me of M83's Saturdays = Youth, which is a style i've grown kind of tired of at this point (yes i know this was released 3 years prior). overall i liked it, but not nearly as much as Ascend or the Isares EP.

i'd definitely spring for the limited vinyl of Drowned in Light if it's $20 or under.

Fuck yes, this is excellent news. I was wondering Jonas was going to pull a new one out of the bag.

If you go to his myspace, there's the Afterimages track in its entirety, and excerpts from other album tracks. Sounds like this might be his best yet. :yeah:

  • 3 weeks later...

Just downloaded it through Darla's website, and whilst I'm only three songs in as I write, this is beautiful, beautiful stuff.

Biarritz might be my favourite Manual track ever.

Buy this album. If you like Ascend, then you'll most definitely love this. It's also worth checking out Lost Days, Open Skies And Streaming Tides.
