is there any way to change the way it looks? I find it looks a bit dull... rateyourmusic.com I mean... suggestions?

Unfortunately, no. If you go to Account/Options you can change the theme, but it's just a color change and it's really pathetic. Very terrible looking site. It turned me off when I first checked it out 3-4+ years ago but then I decided I would still use it to catalog my collection and I've been using it since. I like it for that functionality, but fuck me if it isn't uglier than sin.

on the map.. is that based off of the albums you rate or the artists in ur favourites?

Artists in your collection I think. Perhaps just rated too, regardless of ownership. Not sure what you mean by "artists in ur favourites".
