I don't think Carole King would even agree with you on that.

really, why? She wrote all the songs the divas sing. Inventing the songs out of thin air is the part that impresses me.

For soul music I'd rate performance higher - especially in getting a title like that.

Case in point all the seemingly mediocre songs that become amazing when transformed by an amazing performer.

Not to slag Carole King - she's awesome, but more on the poppier side, don't you think?
