Ipod trouble

Recommended Posts

Basically my uncle came to me the other day complaining that he couldn't put music onto his Ipod.

The story was the his daughter took it to her friends house to get music off her computer and accidentally wiped it clean. Then when he went to put the music back on it wouldn't go on.(This is the story anyway, she could have dropped it in a toilet for all I know.)

So I said it'd take a look at it, figuring it could probably be done and dusted with a simple restore. But when I plug it in it says its corrupted. I say thats grand and continue to restore it. When its finished it says: An Error Occurred 1415.

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU..........

I tried looking around hoping for some solution online. Apple's site didnt offer much. I found another site that gave me a few steps but none it seemed to work.

And one had a similar problem. At this stage all I want to know is can it be fixed with software or is something fucked inside? Loose connection to the HD?

Thanks in advance.

Doubt it got wet. Still runs grand.

I kinda just want someone to tell me weather or not I can fix it with software. But it might be a loose connection inside somewhere.

How the fuck would I tell?

Not a clue. If anything electronic of mine breaks I just google it.

Like for instance my Xbox won't recognise my iPod, so if I want to listen to Marvin Gaye whilst tearing across Liberty City and firing rockets out of my helicopter, I have to substitute the citizens cries of pain and terror for Marvin's soulful tone.

to test if it's a hardware failure, you could install rockbox on it and see if it works with that

i had this happen to an older generation ipod of mine and now it's a paper weight.

unless you have an apple protection plan it will most likely cost you more to fix then to buy a new unit.

depending on the error you have there is a secondary menu you can access to reset the pod, but it all depends

on the symbol that is shown on the screen. if you see a little ipod with a frowny face on the screen i think that's bad news.

the owners manuel should give you steps to access the hidden reset menu. there are also most likely directions for doing it

on line or you could call apple support or direct to an apple store and you might find a kindly soul.

hope this helps.

The ipod itself seems fine. I chose a language, can scroll through music>artist etc. Theres just no music on and it wont let me put anything on it.

My Ipod was being weird this morning. I plugged it in via the USB and the ipod lit up, but it didn't start charging which was odd..then turned on itunes and it didnt find it. Went in device manager and saw that there was a problem with the ipod, so found the CD that came with it and reinstalled the driver and hey presto, works like a charm again. Maybe it can be fixed that simply... If you haven't got the original CD, I'm sure you can download the drivers online...

or somethin..

And totally reformatting doesn't do anything?

This is the error I get when I reformat. Right at the end when its done, it says "An Error Occurred:1415".

i wouldn't trust apple/itunes' 'format' - fuck knows what they're doing to the retarded FAT/dir structure

install rockbox and i'd imagine at that point if a full reformat is needed you could do a linux dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/*your ipod here* or equivalent

(i'm sure there's a windows alternative. if not, install cygwin and then there is - lotsa effort though)
