I love David Byrne, especially his collabs with Eno (2009's was fucking great). The guy is going nuts collaborating with artists from later generations like the Dirty Projectors and now ... Fatboy Slim? It's a disco album.

  Quote
Here Lies Love tells the story of Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos and her rise to prominence. Throughout the album's two discs and 22 songs, they also tell the parallel tale of Estella Cumpas, the servant who raised Marcos.

So, a disco concept album about Philippino women. Featuring a metric shit-ton of random female vocalists like Tori Amos and Santigold.

.....

..

oh, right! I'm looking forward to this. It kind of seems like he's spiralled into madness lately (see "Toe Jam"); "Everything That Happens..." was great though

This collab sounds like a train wreck, but who knows.

And yes, it was worth visiting this thread for Rashida if nothing else...

yeah strange as fuck. i'd love to hear byrne collaborate with an idm artist, in the same way that david sylvian has done work with fennesz and burnt friedman.

i didn't like the santigold track at all tbh.

I like that track actually! Maybe Cook is actually making some good music with this BPA project. "Seattle" is a great song too.

Toe Jam is a great track, it's just fun (the enitre BPA album is pretty good actually. If this were more like that track I'd be more interested but it doesn't sound like it is...

what is BPA?

this album is pretty good. listening to it now. resembles ABBA or something like that more than anything else. i think it's good.

BPA is a collection of songs Norman Cook Produced under the alias British Port Authority, some of them dating back to the 80's supposedly, but some for example Toe Jam feat. David Byrne and a verse from Dizzee Rascall, feel like they're made up of multiple and more modern sessions (not in a bad way, just the Dizzee verse is obviously more recently recorded)... The other standout track is one I forget the title of, but it features Iggy Pop and it's pretty damn catchy. It's not a Big Beat record like his Fatboy Slim material, instead it's more of an ecclectic indie album, and IMO for the most part it's a pretty good listen, especially as a summer album.

this album is pure genius, at least the better tracks are. still digesting it, obviously. huge.

but seriously, it's fucking amazing. especially if you like a good melody
