Cables

I've found a really good site for high end Mogamis at killer prices. You can fully customize them too, so I have a bunch of cables in my setup that say my name, ACID, and other fun stuff. I think the original intention of the labels was a bit more of a utilitarian one.. but bling baby!

Check it out: https://eventhorizon-srv.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/index.php?cPath=21&osCsid=3kd6lrtn1eupnq80ekpab2o0e2

Also I have bought a lot of top XLR's from a seller named Hotwired on eBay. Great prices from them too.

Where do you pick up yours?

Cheers,

Nice- can't say I'm familiar with Maplin.

Maplin is like the English version of Radio Shack

Last time I bought HDMI cables it was $10 for a 3pack of 6'ers... compared with my buddies $70 Best Buy cable and he couldn't see/hear any difference.

Yeah you wouldn't. It sends digital data down the cable so it'll either work or wont, with little else inbetween. Cable prices are the biggest con of this generation.

There can be differences, but only seen/heard on super high end equipment. HDMI still uses copper which has a myriad of different scales of purity and laws of physics. Plus many of the cables vary in different gauge types which can also make a difference.

It's a fookin' digital signal. The copper is just for the earthing stuff. You don't get different grades of CAT 5 cables do you - either the the data in the network cable gets to you or it doesn't. You don't go: Oh this internet signal is good but it could help with a bit more definition on this web page....

lol you are reading a bit too hard into my words man; I was not disagreeing with you, just simply stating that there are differences, most of which are undetectable on a normal consumer setup. And yes you do get different grades of cat5 and cat6 alike. It's all about throughput. It's digital which means there can be corruption which is where my point lies.

Do a google of "HDMI Green Dots"... the green dots are due to the TV processing a string of 0's which transpired from a corruption somewhere in the digital signal... most of the times the corruption happening with these cheap cables or sometimes due to a faulty component.

Most component processors correct these corruptions but sometimes things slip through and you will hear/see these corruptions on the higher end equipment. And theoretically any corruption means a damper on true quality output. Just because it's digital doesn't necessary mean "on" and "off"... it's just if the component can fix these corruptions then you will get your signal, if there is too much corruption and it cannot translate, then you'll see your troubles.

To recap... these cheap HDMI cables are fine 99% percent of the time, especially in short runs; high grade HDMI (note I'm not saying expensive) does have it's perks in the right environment, though I will never shell out the dough for one.
