experimental rock music and electronic music are known in germany as following the anti-authoritatian mindset of the sixties. the birth of counter-culture, drug experimentation, and social unrest brought new music horizons. the new, radical bands such as amon duul, faust, and can brought a new musical language with them. the first outgoings (?) of groups like cluster were experiments with sounds, anti-melodic and anti-rhythmic and with this, a musical bridge was crossed (?). german rock groups were aware of and interested in musique concrete and serial music, and the psychedelic sounds of rock, soul, and jazz music from troops stationed in germany. the sampler 'electronic music' from soul jazz knows and lists (?) the protagonists from the german alternative music scene of 72-83. native music including can, neu!, faust, and newer german music.

so its more of an introduction to Kraut rock, cool idea. Soul Jazz jumping on this to me sends a signal that the beginnings of kraut rock retro fetishism have only just begin.

soul jazz as a record label are beyond reproach. i've never bought a bad soul jazz release.

i haven't checked out any of their re-release archive stuff, i think the only 3 things i own by them are the dubstep comps. I was curious to check out some of that Brazillian funk stuff i always see advertised in the wire. Any recommendations?

for that, the tropicalia compilation

might be hard to find now though.
