Guest Gary C
Any UK members connected through Talk Talk. I've only recently switched to it, but my connection is frequently being disconnected. Roughly every 10 minutes (sometimes much more frequent) I lose connection for about 30 seconds. It's pretty shit, and makes it almost impossible to download anything effectively. It's also interrupting my WATMM as I'll type a comment and as I go to post I'll find I've lost my connection and away it all goes. Infuriating. I'm not the primary computer on the modem, so maybe there's something I haven't done and can change, but it's still bullshit. If you're considering changing to Talk Talk because it's cheap, I wouldn't. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54972-talk-talk/ Share on other sites

futureimage
Probably a stupid question, but are you using a wireless or wired connection? Do everything to ensure it's not your end before contacting Talk Talk, otherwise you'll spend hours talking to them on the phone and they'll end up telling you it's you that's at fault. We had similar issues with our wireless connection, which, to be frank, sucks ass. If you find yourself having to change, go with Sky. They've been great so far. Guest Gary C
I've done as much as I reasonably can. I've just been checking the connections between both laptops in the house. Going on the Talk Talk site you can check the connection terminals and it says as of April 2010 that there is congestion in my area and that they're working on it. So I guess if I get that far on the phone that's all they'll tell me. Looking online I'm pretty sure it's a familiar problem with Talk Talk. I never thought I'd miss AOL. They were evil, but they got the job done. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54972-talk-talk/#findComment-1287401 Share on other sites
kakapo
If you've just switched, connections can be flakey for the first week or so while they work out the reliable maximum speed for your line. Also some of the traffic shaping used by ISPs will just disconnect you if trying to use p2p, even if it's at a fairly low speed. All the cheap providers in the UK are shit, and have a tendency to hide their criminality through incompetence. Guest Gary C
Making some changes to both laptops I briefly had some good speeds going, and I haven't encountered a disconnection yet, so maybe I've made a difference. I've also been on the Talk Talk test site checking my speeds over and over again and sending them confirmations each time. Maybe there's someone checking the responses and they've turned the tap a bit more. I did download a Chrome extension called Lazarus that saves everything typed into text-areas. But it's pretty unstable so I got rid of it pretty quickly. Sounds extreme, but it's really annoying having typed something out and having it disappear in an instant.
