Guest Gary C
Yeah, as an Arsenal fan I can't really complain. Barcelona are on a different planet, and Messi is the best player I think I've ever seen. I was so impressed with Barcelona. It seems like they have an extra player on the pitch with how fast they can close down opposition but still hold shape against a loss of possession. Arsenal's passing is a joy on our good days, but Barcelona have taken it to a different level. For brief periods of the night there were 3 Barcelona players playing one-touch passes between themselves. We get close to that mentality and can sometimes do similar things, but they consistently play like that. I was disappointed with Arsenal. We are missing some good players. Fabregas, Arshavin (despite being useless in the first leg), Van Persie and Song, but we were still generally not ourselves. With those players back (or at least above 75% fitness) I think we would've had a different game, especially with Van Persie in the team. We don't have a striker. We've been playing at least 5 midfielders this season and it's begun to look like that recently. We have Bendtner up there by himself and 5 midfielders running around in the middle. Barcelona are also best in midfield but with they amount they press they are a much more attacking minded team. Personally I don't think Fabregas would get into that team, certainly not as a regular. Xavi is the best central midfielder in Europe at the moment and Iniesta is the best playmaker. Busquets is an adequate ball-winner and if they're really stumped they've got Toure too. Barcelona simply have more world-class players. During these performances we've looked like kids again, and had no real star player (aside from Fabregas for 10 minutes). Arsenal need to sign a striker, but it's all too clear that VP can't stay fit, Eduardo will never be the same player, and Bendtner can not play alone. We need a central defender because Gallas will probably be leaving this season. Plus, I still hate Silvestre. But his one-two with Messi will probably be the highlight of his career. I think we're generally sound in midfield, so as we long don't lose anyone (Cesc anyone?). Wilshere has the ability to help out on the left-side next season and if Ramsey were around we would've had options on the bench tonight. The best team won. Guest rowla
Messi was outstanding, true, but with Arsenal at full strength things would have been much closer. Seems like Walcott will never quite fulfill his potential, but a good world cup would suit me. Guest Gary C
I still think Walcott can improve, he's not a waste yet. He might need some motivation by having another right-winger in the squad, and possibly needs to be adapted into more of a striker. His pace is great on the flanks, but his final balls are erratic. Either he needs to spend the summer with Beckham learning how to cross, or Wenger needs to do exactly what he did with Henry and turn a fast winger into a finesse striker. Boxing Day
Messi is the best of the best at the moment , but honestly , I can't see them getting to the final. Guest Gary C
Inter are better than they were previously. But yeah, I still fancy Barca to beat them and then beat Bayern in the final too. They had an easy draw with Arsenal really. We didn't really hassle them and they were able to play as fluently as they like. I think they'll gain a lot from the spectacle and go on to play even more exciting football in the next stages. Boxing Day
Inter is 100 times better now. Remember when they outplayed Chelsea. Guest Gary C
Fair point, Gordo. Exactly why I think Barca will go on to win it all again, but Inter will almost certainly put up more of a fight than before. Mourinho and his teams love underdog status. dr lopez
well that was an upsetting game. aside from silvestre- I don't think anyone played terribly.... they just never shifted into the right gear to close down barca. average al just kept fucking kicking the ball out of bounds to completely kill any kind of momentum the arse were trying to build. Bendtner has improved. so has song. vermaelen has been a great buy (apart from completely over committing himself to the header he completely missed causing the second or third goal) i just think there is something in the water at emirates that makes the lower half of the entire team weak as fuck! chenGOD
Silvestre wasn't even really terrible today. he was pretty unlucky with that first goal. Messi was outstanding. He singlehandedly won that game for Barca today. Barca will have a much harder time against Inter because Arsenal don't defend particularly well at all. It's pretty much like Andy Grey said, when Arsenal play in the EPL, they don't worry about defending so much, because they have so much possession. You don't get that possession when you play Barca though. And it showed, Arsenal were all over the place defensively. No shape at all. Barca's work rate was phenomenal. Fabregas definitely makes that side as a regular, he has beautiful vision. Walcott should be watching Valencia play as a pacy winger. Valencia serves up some delicious balls for Rooney from the same sorts of positions Walcott should be finding himself in. You can't compare slow, lead-footed Beckham (when on when will the English footballing public stop fellating him, most overrated player of all time) with a player with the pace of Walcott. Guest rowla
I really can't see Bayern drawing with or beating Utd tonight. Give Macheda a run from the start as it's getting pretty obvious Berbatov can do little in the lone striker role, play him slightly behind. Start Valencia and Nani for a more positive attacking approach. Now it's never going to happen but it'll look more hopeful than berbatov up on his tod.
