What's a good Viking film?

it doesn't have to be realistic. it can be artsy, experimental or anything really. as long as its not bland or just trying to capture the essence of the period without substance.

 

I basically want you to find me films that will make me want to be a Viking.

13th warrior (iirc) with Antonio Banderas, directed by the once great John McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard). So-so flick but should sate viking appetite.

is there an essential Viking film? one that all others live in the shadow of?

wow, I might see that.

 

I get weary of big budget period peices, because they usually end up so fucking boring its painful. But visually that looks great, and I love Mads so much right now (Clash was poor, but his hair made up for it).

For retro nordic goodness-a bit campy but still-Kirk Douglas in The Vikings.

 

Also I'd agree with the previous posts that suggest Beowulf and Outlander.

Conan the Barbarians not strictly viking but its always fun.

Well, there's always The Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent! It made for a pretty essential MST3K episode, at least...

 

Severed Ways! It was pretty good for such a low budget experimental film. It has a heavy metal soundtrack too and some unexpected funny moments.

wasn't there a movie.. with a native dude and like vikings came and it was all like blood and guts - movie sucked tho, but it had vikings in it. they were big redheaded crazies
