Recommended Posts

I need to call upon your vast techinical knowledge WATMM

I have a looping device with 2 Phono Jack ports, 1 output, 1 input:

I want to connect it to a mic that plugs straight into a PA system. XLR Female to male

Can I connect the looper using a male xlr to phono

and a female xlr to phono?

Ok thanks a lot. I've got both cables so hopefully it'll work when I plug it in.

It's for an open mic comedy thingy, so the promotors don't give you any time to test it / set up

Cheers

Yeha it's funny when it works.... plugged it in last night and it failed. That's the problem with the open mic circuit you can't test or prepare beforehand. They just call your name and you run on

Any ideas why it wouldn't work? Would i need a preamp?

THanks

i don't think you'd need a preamp, if it's going into a PA then that's gonna boost the signal to the right level. not sure why it wouldn't work though!

you could always take your own amp and mic, and just mic up the amp, haha!

hmmm ok I just did a test through my moblePre M-Audio USB on my mac

I have one of these plugged in directly to my pre-amp. I can hear the sound through the mac, no probs:

But when I hook it up through the Looper using the idea above, I can't hear anything.

So, I switched it with an old mic I have, and it worked. It's an Academy e-2007 IMP 600 (I can't find it online it's that defunct)

So, what's the differnce between the mics? is it a power source? They both have on & off switches and I'm not sure wether either of them have a battery inside

Many thanks

what about testing it at home or on a friend's mixer before you do the next open-mic thing?

the difference is that the AKGC1000 is a condenser mic that requires +48v of 'phantom power' from the preamp you are using it with. If your preamp is capable of this, plugging directly into the preamp WILL work, however the loop pedal has no preamp capable of emitting +48v, plugging the AKGC1000 directly into it WILL NOT work. I would go with a dynamic microphone, a cheap one like a Shure SM-57 if you don't want a setup that requires phantom power

oh shit! i didn't think about phantom power! i dunno why a live venue would use a condenser mic though? bizarre.

It's weird. Cos I hooked it up beforehand in the same venue when I go thter ereally early and it worked. Honest.

Really friggin weird. DUnno if it was a condensor mic

Anyway, i'll bring my own mic (that doesn't require phantom power) next time and just plug that in

Thanks for your help

the AKG mic does indeed have a 9V battery inside, usable in place of phantom.

ah, i forgot about this, so maybe at the show it's 9v was drained or not present. I'm guessing that the mixer is being used to supply the +48v and it works for most people's open mic performances since they aren't processing themselves into a line level effects pedal.
