TwiddleBot
Remember when industrial was about pushing the envelope musically, performance-wise? Anybody come across any exciting new artists these days? Most of my friends who listen to industrial listen to what is essentially rave music with the only real dividing factor being the use of 'scary' samples and goth imagery on the covers, thrown in alongside incredibly static and boring production that isn't a fraction as innovative as the stuff cevin key was doing oh 25 years ago Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide TwiddleBot's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/55772-recommend-me-some-new-interesting-industrial/ Share on other sites

awepittance
the original poster wasn't asking about new industrial music that follows similar principals? if not i'd recommend Esplendor Geometrico ( drum machine harshness before EBM even existed, mostly instrumental) Etant Donnes Storm Bugs (put out one record but its innovative as hell) Severed Heads (early pre 1986 'city slab horror' and 'since the accident' two of the most creative forward thinking industrial albums ever) Nocturnal Emissions Zoviet France Doxa Sinistra (started around the same time as Skinny Puppy, equally unique) Klinik (probably the best EBM act, and one of the first) Fad Gadget (proto Depeche Mode mute records co-owner gothic synth pop stuff, very ahead of it's time) Asmus Tietchens (early pre 1983) Psychic TV (early selections like Dreams Less Sweet or Pagan Day) Throbbing Gristle - A Journey Through a Body (their last album before they got back together in 2004) Coil's earlier stuff falls into the category of industrial for me but the later period stuff reminds me more of Current 93 and pagan ballady stuff, that has linkages to industrial music as well i suppose. 1979 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvwZqMRMIzE&feature=related 1981 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TLwdYKfhEk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBMAw21l4_k 1982 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRplSvgx738 1983 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_hc2bRwj7Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbtU5A5tWyM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsBD-pUO4GI 1984 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT6YCUSX930 1986 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ArFjk2528I 1987 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoHv5zBB0Nw Edited April 29, 2010 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/55772-recommend-me-some-new-interesting-industrial/#findComment-1310681 Share on other sites

awepittance
similar to Pan Sonic, hmmm i'd say any of their stuff before 1985 (when they started using sampled drum machines) sounds very minimal very raw and very synthesis driven. I'm personally in love with this record label called Vinyl on Demand, that puts out insanely large vinyl boxsets of old unreleased industrial music , the 4xLP Esplendor set they put out is phenomenal, as is the Severed Heads set called 'Adenoids' if you can find a rip of this - http://www.discogs.com/Esplendor-Geometrico-1980-1989-First-Decade/master/104045 somewhere i highly recommend it Quote Vinyl-on-demandProfile: Vinyl only label run by Frank Maier and specialized in late 70s and early 80s industrial, noise, avantgarde, as well as minimal synth, wave, goth releases. Mostly taken from extremely limited tape publications, often with exclusive bonus tracks and unpublished extras. http://www.discogs.com/label/Vinyl-on-demand Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/55772-recommend-me-some-new-interesting-industrial/#findComment-1310729 Share on other sites

awepittance
the new backwards is fucking excellent, i think it's honestly because of the lack of Jhon on it that makes me like it so much. His vocals on later stuff im just not able to handle. that track you posted up top has awesome backing sounds/music but the vocals ruin it for me. The 2 other tracks you posted i love though. My relationship with Coil is very complicated, as is my relationship with Psychic TV. re: Etant Donnes this release - http://www.discogs.com/Etant-Donnes-Tapes-1977-1983/master/11204 is amazing, again it's on Vinyl on Demand, probably my favorite record label of the moment. awepittance
some of the early Nocturnal Emission stuff fits perfectly into the whole 'minimal-wave' resurgance. Nigel also did some really experimental noisy stuff, but i'm resdiscovering a lot of very poppy electronic music like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ-VYK2f2lc&feature=PlayList&p=8C1E901EB758E247&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=26 this one is from around the same time but almost pure noise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcKW8306I24 Edited April 29, 2010 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/55772-recommend-me-some-new-interesting-industrial/#findComment-1310772 Share on other sites
