From 92-1999 , he released stuff every year (except 98 - as far as i know)

As far as i know 2000 was a no show.

2001 Drukqs and the 2 Remixes by AFX

2003 Smojphace EP and 26 Mixes For Cash

2005 AFX/LFO , ANALORD!!!

2006 Chosen Lords ??

2007 The Tuss

2009 Extra Analord

So Overall , out of his 18-year old career , only 5 of them were "no shows".

I think people are freaking out because they weren't there for the "Golden AFX Decade".

Yep , you are right , so now is 4 years of "no shows".

PRETTY GOOD AFX

I remember in 96 how stoked I was when I got the Girl/Boy EP. I was like "Fuck! This is unbelievable! He put out like 4 releases last year and there is more on the way and it is all mind-blowing and incredible!". It definitely could be better these days but at least he is releasing some stuff. It's not like he just peaced out for five or ten years. It is funny though how each year for an Aphex release feels like 10. Like dog years.

*edit*

After thinking a little about it, I wonder if we all got spoiled with the Analords. It was like "Once a month for eleven months you will get brand new amazing AFX shit to crap your pants over". Then it stopped. We cried. Then put out The Tuss shit and we all hoped it was going to snowball and there would be a Tuss-of-the-month schedule or something.

Yeah it's pretty crazy to expect something significant EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I mean, most rock bands only release new material every 3 years and nobody complains. My best explanation is that RDJ is just releasing material like he said he would: when he needs the money. In fact he's probably spending more time making the music he wants to make now and not just commercial stuff. He's never claimed to respect his fans much so there's no point in expecting him to...

When you think about it, this really isn't so bad. '06, '07, '09...most bands don't even do that.

THATS HOW U NO U GOD WHEN YOU GOTA MODEL AND SHE THROW UP ON YO DICK BECAUSE ITS SO BIG AND YOUR IN A LIMO GOING TO A LIL B CONCERT - Lil B

Same here. I'm gonna guess 2011 for the next possible release date

I hope I'm proven wrong, though

yes, you hope you're proven on when he announces his next release in 2013 when everyone knows we'll already be dead by then! in all likelihood there will be 1230489132481 bands releasing shit on 12/21/2012 or whatever the date was. gimmicks = $.

the 3 album deal is probably his retirement plan. One released each decade. /sadface

2016

2029

2033

only 4 year gap between his 7th and 8th albums!

For me, Venetian Snares has taken over from Aphex Twin. There are parallels to be drawn if you're really bored. Look;

1992 - Selected Ambient Works 85–92..............2001 - Songs About my Cats

1994 - Selected Ambient Works Volume II......... 2002 - Winter in the Belly of a Snake

1995 - Hangable Auto Bulb.................................2006 - Hospitality

1995 - I Care Because You Do...........................2005 - Rossz csillag alatt született

1996 - Richard D. James Album..........................2006 - Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

He's just released more stuff in between because he holds less resentment for those who like his music. He's not made a drukqs yet where he fully matures and creates his masterpiece.

Actually if he released less stuff and worked harder on the stuff he does release, I'd probably like him a lot more. And though I do like him, he can't really compare to aphex.

it was me (and i didn't do it for boc wtf).

here you go

Unfortunately i've recently deleted my attachments... let me see if i can find those graphs, they must be somewhere on the net...

numofreleaseperyeargraph.jpg

numoftracksperyeargraph.jpg

The pattern that emerges is that he has been less prolific since windowlicker.

that was what I was looking for

I also have to add to the statistics:

  Quote
Autechre - Oversteps (WARP210) [The MegaThread] 297 Pages

Wisp - The Shimmering Hour 84 Pages

AFX - Konklaver 75 Pages

Clark - Totems Flare 46 Pages

New RDJ EP The Tuss 42 Pages

REPHLEX . COM 38 Pages

so wisp and autechre own aphex in hype currently (concerning current releases)

the aphex subforum has the most posts of all artists subforms still

@Babar could you add the latest analord bonus to your graphs and do a new release prognosis based on that?

your last assumption was very close

what was the other statistic you did? was it autechre?

I don't think i carried out any supplementary statistical investigation.

And i don't think i still have the excel file. But if i want to add the latest analords to the graph how should i treat them ? As 11 releases ? that would be slightly untrue. But well he released 20 new tracks or so. But he did it at the very end of 2009. So basically 2008 & 2009 were zero-release years which means he's releasing music less and less. And i don't think aphex's going to release any new material soon. You'll have to wait for 2011. At least.
