for the first time in a month, I've listened to this track without imagining the drumline as a fart.

I always picture someone pulling the starter cord on a lawnmower, even though it sounds nothing like how that would actually sound.

well actually I don't imagine anything, but thats what it sounds like to me.

similar to what i imagine. i think of someone peeling a tree apart, like pulling a big chuck of the bark off. i also think of mountains because of the wooshy synth and implications of the title.

i read in some interview or on some fansite that boc wanted to make it sound like someone pulling rope across the deck of a ship.

The "fart" association, no intent to call out or insult Capsaicin, is the kind of thing that ruins a song for me.

Luckily, I listened to part of the song after reading the comment, and it has not been tainted (yet).

However, I did have a girlfriend who remarked that a sample on a Buck 65 song, "Loose Teeth," as it's called on the Warner Bros. releases, sounds like a car's "open door bell." I loved that album, and love that album, but despite my telling her "no" at the time, I guess she's right, and it forever plagues what was my full, previous enjoyment of that track.

Or just some aurora borealis tearing the night sky in two, which is what I imagined back when I used the song as a drug at night.

This is exactly what I've always pictured. One of my favorite BOC tracks.

Used to think it was duct tape being ripped off the roll.

edit; This was before I realized MHTRTC has a track with cards being shuffled in it.

i read in a interview by mike and marcus where they describe what they think that sounds like and they thought it sounded like a rope. a rope being pulled over wood maybe. that's what i think it sounds like.

I've made some samples like that myself. They don't really match the sound in question, but have a similar sort of feel. I could see it being some sort of adhesive strip being pulled apart.

It does sound kind of like a fart, or a rip, but I still think of it more as a creaky stair or floor. The part after the fart does sound a lot like rope slapping wood though.

It's impossible not to hear the hidden vocals when played backwards. It's not a question of trying to hear them. They're just there.

I always kinda thought of it as wood creaking... or like if the sky itself were tearing. As for the "god with hooves" sample, it's pretty blatantly there if you play the track backwards, not like one of those "paul is dead" kinda hear it if you try to, It's there in the mix.

It reminds me of when I was little and lived right in the woods. There were a lot of cedars along the driveway and a branch jutting out of one of them had partially grown into the trunk of another tree beside it. Every time the wind would move the trees, the friction between the grown in branch and the trunk would create that same sound. I am always reminded of that place when YCFTS is playing

Thanks...now I can't listen to it without thinking of Marcus leaning to one side and sneaking out a crafty one while recording samples. :angry:

Sounds like a sample of someone thumbing through a thick book...tuned down with reverb and a low pass filter.
