Bands who make excellent soundtrack material?

The example I'm thinking of is Massive Attack, especially Mezzanine. It seems like I've heard so many songs from this album in films, or if not, the songs are very evocative.

Any others you guys can think of?

Mastodon, as evidenced by them doing the soundtrack for the upcoming Jonah Hex film. :emotawesomepm9:

This pleases me greatly.

Tangerine Dream is my favorite, or were you looking for more rock instrumentation?

edit: you see the trailers for Jonah Hex yet? it was physically painful to watch

One soundtrack does not meet the criteria. :)

Awepittance, don't care about instrumentation, and Tangerine Dream is a good choice.

Keep them coming folks....

have you heard any of this? i thought there was some snag recently where they had to rework a ton of material and brent was super pissed (go figure)

menomena did a great soundtrack side album

amon tobin did a killer job with chaos theory

eddie vedder did a killer killer job with into the wild

Bands that should make scores for films: Kiln, Tortoise, and Broadcast

Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai are the only modern bands I can think of that do score work...

and Kronos Quartet....

Moby did some of the music for Southland Tales. and were the best Moby tracks ever....not a fan

Plaid did Tekkon Kinkreet...

Kettel should do film score work....

I can think of a lot of people whom should work with film but can't think of that many that do in 2010....

I don't mean scores either, I mean soundtrack songs.

Like how the track Angel has been used in a bunch of films (snatch comes to mind). And the track Inertia Creeps seems like it should be used somewhere in a movie.

I know I'm not explaining this very well, but like how a song can evoke strong cinematic images. I don't just mean strong mental images, I mean you can see the track being used in a film.

Peter Gabriel has done some outstanding soundtrack work and even a lot of his album cuts would be beautiful in films.

Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance has done some brilliant stuff for film too. For my money she's the greatest musical export this shitty country has even had. She's an absolute Goddess, and never had any vocal training either :w00t:
