How do you pronounce the "lead" in lead synth?

Do you pronounce it Lead as in the element, to rhyme with dead

or Lead as in the position, to rhyme with deed? I have always known it as the first one but recently I thought that the second one probably makes more sense so I was wondering what other people did. Also I can't find the poll option which is strange.
