Serious question to all the Texans here. How the fuck do you live in a place like that?

The board is to vote on a sweeping purge of alleged liberal bias in Texas school textbooks in favour of what Dunbar says really matters: a belief in America as a nation chosen by God as a beacon to the world, and free enterprise as the cornerstone of liberty and democracy.

reality is known to have a sharp liberal bias

 thank shiva this is a localized case, certainly nothing to call out the entire state of texas on, though they are known for their conservative laws/politicians.

ebb and flow I say. Christianity certainly has played a large role in the founding of the US and still plays a large role in the way many people live, govern, and do business. Nothing wrong with it being talked about in a history class. Kids will still think for themselves, and they always have the internet to find information on whatever they are thinking about. History is always being changed or *updated*. I mean Christopher Columbus discovered America and set up the first hot dog stand in NYC right?

the Texas School Board dictates what the curriculum will be for the entire state of Texas. Because of the purchasing power that Texas has, many textbook manufacturers produce books aimed for that market, resulting in other smaller markets having no choice but to purchase textbooks that have been altered to suit that market.

Brandi...read the article. This si not just "talking about christianity in america's founding".

they're not just including christianity, they're replacing whole sections of history with it. for instance, they want to remove thomas jefferson from their textbooks and talk about aquinas and calvin instead. it's not right.

we really REALLY wouldn't want texas to secede from the union

fuckin lol

i don't deny that christianity has has a profound impact on western laws since rome, but srsly you have to consider the good and the bad. like the salem witch trials, or the indian (native american) policies. saying israel/palestine is solely a result of islamic fundamentalism makes me sick.

This is great news , now they can finally secede from the Union.

Actually apparently that provision no longer exists in the State's constitution. I read osmething about how they used to have that option, but because they joined the confederacy, that part got excised when the south lost the civil war.

This is also true, Texas is a huge generator of income for the federal government.

heh . . this is actually a very "progressive" and accurate stance, which is interesting. we're still a ways from "equal outcomes" (wtfkorbit that means anyway).

though it's ridiculously unproductive to dis the civil rights movement for that. without constant civil rights work we can't expect the disparity to go away.
