I'm moving to Canada for half a year

I'm taking a semester of my music degree at UBC in Vancouver, leaving in 10 weeks. I've never been to Vancouver, and I haven't been overseas for more than a week by myself.

Is it a scheme that you think a lot of Australian pupils may also be doing? Or is just something you arranged by yourself?

If there's other people doing it then look around social-network sites or make a group so that you can get to know them.

If not, just be a barfly.

I'm not sure why I'm doing it; just wanted to mix things up I guess. That, and Brisbane is boring as hell.

Don't be scared dude this is an awesome opportunity. Might be tough the first week or so but sure make some new friends and go mad.

We call them Erasmus'.

Edit: Theres an opportunity to do one in my course to California or Berlin, really hope I can get the Cali one.

Half a year will go by stupidly fast anyway, and Vancouver sounds like a great place to me. This is definitely a good thing.

There's a good underground electronic scene on the west coast (and a very active underground music scene in general), small community, show up a few times at events and you'll probably start meeting folks pretty quickly.. if that's what you're looking for

Vancouver is awesome, you should like it. Plus it's nearly summertime and it's gorgeous.

I rode through parts of the UBC campus on my bike tour (and camped in the forest outside the dorms). BC is a really beautiful place, and UBC has an incredible view.

I wouldn't fret it dude. UBC campus is it's own little city. it's gorgeous and the folks are fairly friendly. I quite like vancouver; lots to see and do. Victoria is prettier but vancouver won't leave you bored. IF you want a real good time check out the downtown east side. and say hello to chen while you're there.

beware the packs of vagabonds that travel the streets at night. and do visit the BCMP bookstore, the girls at the checkout are always insanely hot. also, cypress is good local skiing/snowboarding come wintertime.
