Attack trouble

Guest Sprigg

Okay, so I'm making a track almost entirely composed with Image-Line's Sakura synth, and I'm having trouble getting the STR SG Double Bass preset to hit at the same time as the STR Deep Harp 2...

I've adjusted delays/attacks on both, but the Double Bass is just slightly behind, like a millisecond or two, but it throws off the whole feel of the track, and it's damned frustrating.

Even copy/pasting the same pattern into the piano roll of both, the stringed bass is just a fraction behind.

Ideas?

If you can't adjust it on the synth parameters, how about selecting the midi info and moving it forward a little for the string patch, ie earlier?

I might be crazy for asking, but can you really hear the difference of attack if it is 1 millisecond off?

It depends on the person, but I doubt you can hear 1ms

I'm pretty sure no-one could happily identify 1ms delay accurately! 1ms is very short, I think the op's suggestion of a ms or two is a low estimation of a general lag, probably more in the range (for slow string patches) of 20-200ms (very rough guess). You can hear 1ms when you have two very similar sources, one delayed, but you are hearing the filtering that goes on between the slightly out of phase signals, rather than the delay!

I ended up moving all the string MIDI over by about a half-step, that seemed about right.

Wow, ghetto. Glad to hear you have it sorted, though!
