been wanting to get into playing around with video recently. got ideas for visuals but the only thing i have on my pc is movie maker. which must have come with windows xp. it's ridiculous. so i'm looking for recommendations for software. editing, effects etc. i've used and liked adobe premiere before (long ago) so i know that's pretty solid. is there any free software that does a decent job or is this something where you need to pay (*eyepatch*) to get something that works.

Adobe After Effects. Once you've figure out a thing or two it's really quite easy to use. If you check out a few tutorials here (scroll down) you should get a feel for how it works http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/

this. it's like Photoshop with a timeline & keyframes. You can do anything with it.

If you want to do realtime motion graphics, try this: http://www.ventuz.com/

It's nodal like Max/MSP but better organized.

Sony Vegas is great and has a intuitive interface. And those tutorials from videocopilot are the shit, just select a few random ones and you'll get it in no time, used to watch loads of them when I was into this stuff.

After Effects + Premiere and you're good to go.

I use After Effects for making visuals and post production. What kind of visuals do you have in mind?

Earlier today I fooled around with some particle plugins and wanted to create something warm and old looking...

  Reveal hidden contents

The film roll scratch looks really weird on a still picture...

I've always used Sony Vegas. It's simple to pick up and quite powerful.

I used Vegas for my videos

Me added to the list of Vegas users too. So much lighter in resources and easier to do everything than Premier Pro...

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
